Google’s Pixel Watch 4 has a neat little trick that some people might have overlooked, which is understandable since you probably wouldn’t be thinking about an incoming charger notification. In fact, you might be wondering if you even need a charger notification in the first place. While this isn’t necessarily a necessity, it is a nicety. This feature is more useful thanks to the new charging dock for the Pixel Watch 4.
With the Pixel Watch 3, you get the same familiar charging puck that came with the previous watch. The Pixel Watch 4, on the other hand, has an actual charging dock. This allows the watch to sit on the charger using the new contacts on the side of the watch. So the watch display faces toward you. That being said, it’s apparently easy to misalign the charging contacts. Which could result in the watch not getting the juice it needs. That could lead to a dead battery, and that’s no good. That’s where this new feature comes in.
The Pixel Watch 4 charger will send you a notification if the watch isn’t getting power
This probably isn’t an issue you would run into often, but it’s nice to know that Google thought of it. When you place the Pixel Watch 4 on its charging dock, the watch will tell you if it isn’t getting power. On the display, you’ll see a message that tells you to check the watch and ensure it’s aligned properly and that the dock is getting power.
For example, if the dock isn’t plugged into a power source all the way, it wouldn’t be getting power. You would then see this message. This could also come in handy if you have the dock plugged into a surge protector that’s switched off. Details of this neat little trick were initially reported by 9To5Google.
It is worth noting that this isn’t entirely new to the Pixel Watch family. As reported by Android Police, the Pixel Watch 3 has a similar feature. That being said, the Pixel Watch 3 only fits on its charging puck in one way, since the pins are magnetic. Regardless, this is likely to be useful for new Pixel Watch 4 owners. Of course, if there’s just an issue with the battery altogether, the watch is more easily repairable now compared to older models.
