If you wished for Google to add additional features to make Drive’s scanning tool more useful, there’s some good news for you. The Mountain View giant has just announced some changes on how you can scan documents using Drive on your Android phone. Besides that, there are some design updates that will make using Google Drive much easier going forward.
Google Drive gets a design update; document scanner receives new features
Speaking of changes to the scanning tool, there’s a new crop and rotate feature, as well as making color adjustments via filters. That’s not all; the scanning tool also gets a shadow-erasing feature, which is a lifesaver for those scanning the documents under the lights.
Google has made some updates to the UI of the app to offer a cleaner look to users. First, you have the larger page previews. It makes it easier for you to check whether you’ve scanned the document well before you can save it. There’s also a page deletion feature and retake buttons for quick adjustments.
Moving on, you also get a new thumbnail carousel that complements the Material 3 design. Google notes that you can “quickly skim through your document and simply drag and drop pages to re-order them.” Speaking of makeovers, Google also rolled out Material 3 Expressive design to Chrome on Android.
You should be able to see these changes by mid-September
Google has announced that all the aforementioned changes to Google Drive should arrive for all Google Workspace customers by mid-September. In other words, business and personal accounts will see these changes in the coming days. If you’re an iOS user, sadly, Google didn’t provide any update on this matter yet. But don’t worry. If we come across any announcement from Google, we’ll update this piece for you.
