Almost the Entire iPhone 17 Lineup May Get a Big RAM Boost

Apple will finally unveil this year’s iPhone lineup at its upcoming event on September 9. Rumors suggest that the Cupertino tech giant will launch as many as four new iPhones this year: the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and 17 Air. Also, multiple reports have revealed that the iPhone 17 range will get a boost in multiple departments, including RAM. A TrendForce report has now tipped the exact RAM capacity of each upcoming iPhone model.

In addition, Morgan Stanley has released a fresh note on Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 lineup. Its report has predicted some details regarding the storage and pricing of this year’s iPhones.

The iPhone 17 Air and Pro models are getting more RAM, except for the vanilla iPhone

According to the Taiwanese market research firm TrendForce, Apple is going to boost the RAM capacity of the Air and Pro models. Citing “current market information and analyst projections,” the source claims the iPhone 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max variants will flaunt 12GB of RAM. However, the vanilla iPhone 17 will offer 8GB of RAM.

If the report is correct, the iPhone 17 Air and Pro variants will get a significant boost in the RAM department, as all iPhone 16 variants come with 8GB of RAM. The higher RAM capacity can deliver faster overall performance, apart from providing enhanced multitasking and Apple Intelligence features. TrendForce has also made speculations regarding the other features of the iPhone 17 range, which you can read in their report here.

It’s worth mentioning that Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also predicted that the iPhone 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max would each have 12GB of RAM. Kuo also stated that the base iPhone 17 model might come equipped with 12GB of RAM as well. However, Apple seems to be continuing to offer 8GB on the vanilla variant due to supply chain shortages.

Apple could drop the 128GB memory variant of one of the Pro models

Morgan Stanley’s Erik Woodring suggests that Apple will increase the storage of the base iPhone 17 Pro model from 128GB to 256GB. Notably, an earlier JPMorgan note also suggested the same. So, the iPhone 17 Pro base model will arrive with 256GB of storage, as suggested by both sources.

Furthermore, the Morgan Stanley analyst expects a 5 percent growth in ASP (average selling price) for the 2026 iPhones. Apple will launch the iPhone 17 Air at $999, which will replace last year’s iPhone 16 Plus variant, costing $899. JPMorgan’s earlier prediction suggests Apple could price the iPhone 17 Air at either $899 or $940.

Lastly, Morgan Stanley’s assessment suggests that the iPhone 17 Air would be the highlight of Apple’s next event. We will have official details in less than a week, so watch this space for regular updates.
