Android TV Simplifies Navigation: Discover Tab Merges with Home

If you ever find yourself saying that you’re bored, you’re probably not trying hard enough. In this day and age, it’s easy to find all types of content online, but maybe that’s the problem: there’s too much content, and we don’t know what to pick. This is why TV and streaming apps usually come with some sort of discover or recommendation section. This helps users find something new to watch. However, it looks like Google is killing off the “Discover” tab on Android TV and moving it to the “Home” tab.

Android TV moves Discover to the Home tab

According to a report from Android Authority, they spotted signs in the Android TV Home app of this potentially happening back in August 2025. The code strings suggested that Google was getting ready to kill the Discover tab on Android TV and move it to the Home tab.

However, back then, it was unclear if Google was planning to make this move. Or if they were simply toying with the idea. But it turns out it was the former. According to Android Authority’s updated report, Android TV users are now seeing a notice that the Discover tab will be going away soon. They are getting a message saying, “Your recommendations and watchlist will move to the ‘Home’ tab.”

Essentially, nothing really changes here. You will still be able to find your recommendations and watchlist, just in a different location. Also, as Android Authority points out, consolidating recommendations will make the app look cleaner and more organized.

Creating a more seamless experience

Google’s decision to remove the Discover tab and consolidate recommendations in the Home tab isn’t just about decluttering. It helps create a more minimalist design. This is important in today’s streaming space, where Google has to compete against other TV platforms like Apple TV and Roku, both of which offer a more seamless experience.

It could also help Google unify the experience, especially since the company also has the Google TV platform, which is actually built on Android TV.
