Photo-sharing app Instagram is easily one of the most widely used smartphone apps. With frequent updates, the app has tons of features catering to creators and casual users alike. One of the most popular features on the platform is Reels, enabling vast user engagement in the form of short-form video content. With so much going on, it’s only natural to expect it to have a large user base. Rightly so, Instagram now has 3 billion monthly active users.
Instagram now has 3 billion monthly active users
The confirmation comes from the main man, Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO. “What an incredible community we’ve built here,” said Zuckerberg on his Instagram channel. This is a major milestone for the company, and it took its sweet time to get there. Meta last disclosed Instagram’s statistics in October 2022, where Zuckerberg, during the earnings call, said that the app crossed 2 billion monthly users.
This milestone also puts Instagram on the same page as Meta’s other social media apps, Facebook and WhatsApp. Zuckerberg, in January this year, announced that Facebook has more than 3 billion monthly active users.

Meta, back in April 2024, said that it would no longer announce the monthly and daily active user numbers for its platforms, such as Facebook, every quarter. Since then, the company has been reporting each quarter the number of daily active users of its apps.
In July 2025, the daily active user count for Meta’s family of apps grew to 3.48 billion in the second quarter. This is better than analysts’ estimates of 3.45 billion. This number is up from 3.43 billion in the previous quarter.
