Remember there was a point when it was rumored that smartphone makers were looking to ditch all physical buttons on their phones? That didn’t happen. Instead, we’re starting to see more physical buttons appear. Apple did it with the Action Button and Camera Control, and now it looks like Honor is doing the same for its upcoming Magic 8 Pro, whose design has been shared exclusively with The Verge.
Honor Magic 8 Pro design revealed
Honor took to the stage at the Snapdragon Summit, where they showed off their upcoming flagship phone. But thanks to an exclusive report from The Verge, we have clearer images with the design of the Honor Magic 8 Pro.
For the most part, the Magic 8 Pro doesn’t look too different from its predecessor. But there is one big (or small) difference: a dedicated AI button. Honor did not say what kind of AI functions it will enable. However, if we had to guess, clicking on it could summon the built-in AI features of the phone, like a suite of tools or maybe an AI-powered virtual assistant.
Honor did announce several new AI features at the event. One of those is called Magic Color. This allows users to harness the power of AI to restyle images and videos. Users can pick a color palette from another image. This means that if there’s a certain color scheme/mood that you want to replicate, this tool should let you do just that.
Other than that, we can see that Honor is launching the phone in a cyan finish. Presumably there will be more color options available, but for now, cyan is confirmed as one of them. RODENT950 on X has also shared additional renders that show off more angles of the phone.
What else can we expect?
In addition to the dedicated AI button and cyan finish, the camera island looks like it’s the same as the Magic 7 Pro. We don’t know what changes Honor might have made to the cameras. However, a recent series of photos suggests that the phone could pack a 200MP 85mm-equivalent telephoto camera. Assuming those samples were actually taken by the phone, that’s pretty impressive.
Also, Honor confirmed that the handset will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 5. This makes the Magic 8 Pro one of the first few Android phones to make use of Qualcomm’s new chipset. Either way, we should have more details, including pricing and availability, at Honor’s event on October 15th. So, be sure to check back then for updates!
