Pixel Camera 10.1 Update Refreshes UI & Adds Smart FPS Control

Ever since Google introduced its Material 3 Expressive design language, the company has been slowly introducing it across its apps and services. If you’re a Pixel user, then you might be interested to learn that Google has recently pushed out an update for the Pixel Camera, bringing it up to version 10.1 with a couple of Material 3 Expressive UI tweaks here and there.

Google’s Pixel Camera 10.1 update is here

According to 9to5Google, the Pixel Camera 10.1 update brings several visual and functional improvements to older Pixel devices. The most noticeable change is the redesigned capture button. It now appears as a solid circle surrounded by a transparent ring. Additionally, buttons next to the capture button have been transformed into rounded squares. They have also been updated with fresh animations that make interactions feel more responsive.

Google has also reorganized the camera settings into clearer groups with updated toggle styles. This should make it easier to find specific options like photo settings or pro controls, especially when using the phone with one hand. The company also improved font sizes and button shapes throughout the interface. This makes the app more accessible for daily photography tasks.

One of the notable changes that is part of the update is the “Optimize FPS” feature. This automatically adjusts video frame rates between 30 and 60 FPS during recording. It should improve video quality by selecting the appropriate frame rate based on lighting conditions and movement.

More Material 3 Expressive

Google’s Material 3 Expressive design language represents a significant evolution in how the company approaches user interfaces. The design philosophy emphasizes clarity, personality, and adaptability, creating interfaces that feel both modern and intuitive. Over recent months, Google has been systematically bringing this design language to various apps across its ecosystem.

The company previously updated apps like Google Messages and Google Keep with Material 3 Expressive elements, featuring similar rounded buttons, improved spacing, and better visual hierarchy. The Phone app and Calculator also received refreshes that align with this design direction, creating a more cohesive experience across Pixel devices.

The Pixel Camera 10.1 update is available for download via the Play Store. However, take note that it comes in at a hefty 1.4GB. So, make sure you’re connected to power while you’re downloading it.
