No, Android 13 hasn’t arrived early for the phone. But the 2020 mid-ranger is getting the latest, October 2022 Android security patch. The new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is currently available to the unlocked 4G models. The carrier-locked variants should also join the party soon.
The October SMR for the unlocked Galaxy A51 in the US comes with firmware version A515U1UES8DVI1. The update doesn’t bring any new features or enhancements. Samsung is only pushing this month’s security fixes to the device. The update contains fixes for more than 50 vulnerabilities, including 18 Galaxy-specific issues. The rest are Android OS problems that affect the entire Android ecosystem. These issues were patched by Google, with the company labeling one of them as a critical vulnerability.
All of those fixes are now available to the unlocked Galaxy A51 LTE in the US. Samsung also sells the phone with 5G cellular connectivity stateside, as well as in several other regions. However, since the device is only set to receive security updates biannually, i. e. two updates in a year, there’s no telling when the updates might come. We can’t tell if the Galaxy A51 5G will get the October SMR. Perhaps it isn’t even confirmed if the carrier-locked variants of the 4G model will get the latest security patch. Samsung recently released the September SMR to those with an identical firmware version (A515USQS8DVI1).
Nonetheless, if you’re using the Galaxy A51 or the Galaxy A51 5G, you can check if an update is available for you from the Settings app. Go to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. If an update is available, you can download and install it. If there’s no update available, you’re out of luck. But don’t forget to regularly check for updates, so you don’t miss out on the latest security fixes. If you have auto-updates enabled, you should be notified of new updates.
The Galaxy A51 will get the Android 13 update
The Galaxy A51 was one of the best-selling smartphones of 2020. And if you’re one of those buyers holding on to the phone today, you’ll soon get the Android 13 treatment from Samsung. Well, not too soon, as we aren’t expecting the update to arrive before 2023. The Korean firm still has dozens of high-priority models to update. Only the Galaxy S22 series has received the stable update so far. But its software team has been exceeding expectations lately, at least in terms of update speed, so you can’t rule out the possibility of the Galaxy A51 getting the Android 13 in 2022. We will let you know when the rollout begins.
The post Galaxy A51 Gets New Update In The US With Security Enhancements appeared first on Android Headlines.

Source: ndroidheadlines.com

Samsung‘s Galaxy A51 is receiving a new software update in the US.
