Nintendo has been riding the Switch train for a little more than six years now, but the next-gen console may be coming in 2024. There have been tons of rumors about Nintendo\u2019s Switch follow-up for the last couple of years, but each has led to essentially nothing. The company did end up releasing the Switch OLED which was in some ways an upgrade from the original console. But it provided the same performance as the original and only included a few minor improvements. Not the least of which is the slightly larger OLED display.
\nBut while those upgrades are certainly appreciated, many fans are wishing Nintendo offered something more powerful. Nintendo is most certainly already working on what comes after the Switch, but has yet to share any details on it. Let alone give it an official announcement. And without any announcement, there\u2019s no official release date. However, according to VGC the next-gen Nintendo console will arrive in 2024. Specifically in the back half of the year. This means Nintendo could be targeting a holiday release.
\nThe next-gen Nintendo console will support portable mode
\nOne of the best things about the Nintendo Switch is its versatility. You can dock it at home for playing on a bigger screen. Or you can undock it and play it on the go. Which makes it a perfect companion gaming device for travel. Especially on longer flights.
\nIt seems the next-gen console from Nintendo will have this same capability. Supporting gameplay in a portable mode. The report says that people familiar with Nintendo\u2019s plans mention the portable mode will be similar. It does not state however that it will be the same.
\nIt\u2019s also said the console may have an LCD screen instead of an OLED, and be able to play physical cartridges as well as digital downloads. Earlier this year Nintendo said it plans to make a smooth transition for customers from the Switch to the new console. Suggesting people who upgrade will be able to take their Nintendo account over to the new hardware.
