Google is finally breaking back into smart eyewear with the advent of Android XR and its XR Glasses, and yesterday at Google I\/O 2025, it officially announced its first eyewear partners for XR Glasses. Much like Meta partnered with Ray-Ban, Google is partnering with eyewear companies to make XR Glasses for the Android XR platform. Initially, it\u2019s starting small with just a few partners. That being said, Google also specifically refers to them as the \u201cfirst\u201d partners for the eyewear. This implies that Google intends to take on new XR Glasses partners in the future. Perhaps, depending on how popular the hardware is.<\/p>\n

Google\u2019s first eyewear partners for XR Glasses will be Warby Parker and Gentle Monster<\/p>\n

While Google has its own pair of XR Glasses that it showed off during Google I\/O, it will also be partnering with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster as its first two partners for the glasses. It\u2019s unclear if Google will also offer a pair that it made in-house, like the ones it showed off at the event. It\u2019s also unclear what the glasses from Warby Parker and Gentle Monster will look like. That being said, both companies offer a variety of more contemporary eyewear styles. Warby Parker, perhaps more so.<\/p>\n

Gentle Monster, on the other hand, appears to be a little more fashion-forward and offers some more bold style choices. Although it seems unlikely that Google would offer something that mimics these styles.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also worth noting that Google hasn\u2019t mentioned any sort of price for these. However, if you look at the current options from both partners, there\u2019s a distinct gap in cost. Warby Parker seems to offer a lot of styles that are under $100. Whereas Gentle Monster, being a more fashion-forward eyewear brand, offers a lot of styles that exceed $300. This might suggest that XR Glasses from both will have noticeably different price points.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no mention of a launch date<\/p>\n

We know that Samsung\u2019s Project Moohan is coming later this year as the first Android XR headset. What we don\u2019t know is when the first XR Glasses will be launching. The Android XR platform is also launching later this year, likely at the same time as Project Moohan.<\/p>\n

With that in mind, it\u2019s possible, but not certain, that the first Android XR Glasses will launch around then as well. This is speculation, of course, but a reasonable assumption nonetheless. There\u2019s a lot of time between now and the end of the year, so there\u2019s a chance XR Glasses will launch before 2025 is over. Keep in mind, though, that Google hasn\u2019t confirmed either partner is already working on the glasses. Which means they could be further out.
