Specifications

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge vs Apple iPhone 16 Pro: Design

There are some similarities when it comes to the design of these two phones, but not a lot. They’re visibly very different. What is similar is the fact that both displays are flat, and the same goes for their backplates and frame. On top of that, both phones have glass on the back. Other than that, they really don’t have much in common. The iPhone 16 Pro’s corner curvature is a bit more pronounced.

The Galaxy S25 Edge has a centered display camera hole up top. The iPhone 16 Pro includes a pill-shaped cutout in the same place, the so-called Dynamic Island. The bezels on both smartphones are thin and uniform. The ones on the Galaxy S25 Edge are thinner, though. Both frames do have slightly tapered edges, so that they don’t cut into your hand. The Galaxy S25 Edge has the power/lock and volume up and down buttons on the right-hand side, those are the only buttons on the phone.

On the other hand, the iPhone 16 Pro includes the power/lock and Camera Control buttons on the right side. On the left, you’ll find the volume rocker buttons, and the Action Button. If we flip them over, you’ll notice that their camera islands are in the same place, the top-left corner on the back. However, they do look different. The Galaxy S25 Edge includes two vertically aligned cameras in a pill-shaped camera island. The iPhone 16 Pro, on the other hand, has a rectangular camera island with three cameras inside it.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is considerably taller and wider, which is to be expected as it has a much larger display. It is also notably thinner, as that’s one of its main selling point, the phone is extremely thin. The iPhone 16 Pro is also thin, though, in the general sense of things. The Galaxy S25 Edge weighs 36 grams less in comparison, despite the fact it has a larger footprint. Both smartphones are slippery and also IP68 certified for water and dust resistance.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge vs Apple iPhone 16 Pro: Display

The Galaxy S25 Edge features a 6.7-inch 3120 x 1440 Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. That panel is flat, and it supports an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz). It has a resolution of 3120 x 1440, and it supports HDR10+ content. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 92%, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. The Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 from Corning is here to protect the display.

Apple iPhone 16 Pro

The iPhone 16 Pro has a 6.3-inch 2622 x 1206 LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display. That panel is also flat, and it also supports an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz). HDR10 is supported, and the same goes for Dolby Vision. The peak brightness this display can provide is 2,000 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 90%, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. This display is protected by the Ceramic Shield glass (2024 edition).

Both of these displays are actually great. They’re not only plenty sharp, but they’re also vivid and have great viewing angles. The touch response is good on both, while both panels do get bright enough when you need them to. The blacks are also deep on both panels. What neither panel supports is high-frequency PWM dimming. That’s something many Chinese smartphones offer these days.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge vs Apple iPhone 16 Pro: Performance

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor fuels the Galaxy S25 Edge. That is a 3nm chip from the company, an overclocked version of Qualcomm’s most powerful processor. It is paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM inside of this phone, along with UFS 4.0 flash storage. The iPhone 16 Pro is fueled by a 3nm Apple A18 Pro processor, which is paired with 8GB of RAM and NVMe flash storage. Neither phone supports storage expansion, by the way.

Both of them do offer great performance, however, when it comes to day-to-day tasks. Both are snappy and responsive, and that even goes for launching more demanding apps fast and multitasking as well. Emailing, messaging, consuming multimedia, and so on, none of that is an issue for these two phones, as expected. These are high-end devices, and the performance reflects that.

When it comes to gaming, they can both run the most demanding games on their respective app stores. However, the Galaxy S25 Edge does emit more heat after a while. We’re guessing that its thinness does have something to do with it. This phone is extremely thin. Low-end and mid-range games are not a problem for either device, not at all. We need to properly test the performance of the Galaxy S25 Edge, and that’s something you’ll find in our upcoming review.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge vs Apple iPhone 16 Pro: Battery

Samsung’s handset includes a 3,900mAh battery on the inside. The iPhone 16 Pro, on the other hand, has a 3,582mAh battery. Do note that iPhones usually have noticeably smaller batteries, and the fact that the iPhone 16 Pro is also a lot smaller. That 3,900mAh battery inside the Galaxy S25 Edge is actually quite tiny for that phone. Phones of that size with those internals have batteries that are 5,000mAh+ in size these days.

The battery life the Galaxy S25 Edge offers doesn’t seem to be great. It’s definitely not a phone for power users. The iPhone 16 Pro easily beats the Galaxy S25 Edge in terms of battery life, and it’s not even close. You can get some really high screen-on times with the iPhone 16 Pro, actually, which is not the case with the Galaxy S25 Edge. That would be less of a problem if it had blazing-fast charging, but that’s not the case.

The Galaxy S25 Edge supports 25W wired and 15W wireless (Qi2 Ready) charging. The iPhone 16 Pro supports 38W wired, 25W MagSafe wireless, 15W Qi2 wireless, 7.5W Qi wireless, and 5W reverse wireless charging. It takes the Galaxy S25 Edge around an hour to fully charge, a bit over an hour. The iPhone 16 Pro takes even longer than that, even though its peak charging speed is higher. It takes almost an hour and 40 minutes to fully charge.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge vs Apple iPhone 16 Pro: Cameras

The Galaxy S25 Edge has two cameras on the back. It has a 200-megapixel main snapper (1/1.3-inch sensor size) and a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/2.55-inch sensor size). The iPhone 16 Pro, on the flip side, includes three cameras on the back. A 48-megapixel main camera (1/1.28-inch sensor size) is backed by a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/2.55-inch sensor size) and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (1/3.06-inch sensor size, 5x optical zoom).

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge

The iPhone 16 Pro does provide images that look closer to what your eyes are actually seeing. That being said, many people would prefer what the Galaxy S25 Edge can capture, actually. The images are a bit more saturated, and there’s plenty of detail in them. In fact, both smartphones have great main cameras that perform well in both good lighting and when the light goes away.

When it comes to the ultrawide camera, the iPhone 16 Pro will likely be better most of the time. The Galaxy S25 Edge doesn’t have a telephoto camera of any kind, so the iPhone 16 Pro is kind of the default winner in that regard. It doesn’t have the best periscope telephoto camera out there, but at least it has it.

Audio

When it comes to audio, well, both phones do include stereo speakers. They both have good speakers, with good loudness, but a step below what most flagship phones offer. They’re a bit less loud, even though the sound output is very good.

There is no audio jack on either of these two smartphones. You can, however, use their Type-C ports to connect your wired headphones.
