Yeah, it's dead to the Switch 2 dock

The Nintendo Switch 2 is finally here, and there are lots of little upgrades and changes, including a brand-new power brick. If you were lucky enough to get your hands on a Nintendo Switch 2 for yourself, you’ll no doubt be diving deep into all the updates. However, if you have yet to pick one up, there’s a lot of stuff to look out for. For instance, the Switch 2 has a brand-new dock that’s slightly bigger than the dock for the Switch and Switch OLED. The new dock also now supports 4K video output to the TV. So, you’ll get higher resolution gaming on the TV as opposed to the console’s handheld mode.

The Switch 2 also comes with a larger display and bigger Joy-Con controllers. Which also have bigger buttons and joysticks. Of course, the console has significantly increased performance for games. Including some games from the original Switch. All thanks to the new technology being used. As for the new power brick, it’s slightly smaller than the original power brick. It also has a detachable USB-C to USB-C cable. If you have both the original and the new Switch 2, you might also be wondering if you can simply use the old power brick to plug in the dock.

Nintendo Switch 2 owners will not be able to use the older power brick

If you were hoping to use the old power brick from your Nintendo Switch for your Nintendo Switch 2, unfortunately, you can’t do this. The main reason for this is that the new power brick has a higher power output. As noted by 9To5Toys, you will get an error message if you try to use the old power brick for the new console. It’s worth noting that this only applies to plugging in the dock. You can still use any charger with a USB-C cable to charge your Switch 2. However, using in docked mode will require the new power brick.

That’s because it now charges at up to 60W instead of 40W like the older version. This probably won’t make a big difference for most people. That being said, if you’re someone who has everything neatly managed through a series of tightly organized cable setups, you’ll have to undo part of that to get the new brick and cable in there. It might be a small nuisance, but it must be done if you ever want to play your Switch 2 on the big screen.
The post That old Switch power brick?
