No, we’re not talking about a lawsuit between Ive and OpenAI, but rather a lawsuit filed by Iyo over an alleged trademark infringement.

OpenAI and io’s lawsuit

If you navigate to OpenAI’s website to read about the deal between Ive and OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, the page now shows a message. The message states, “This page is temporarily down due to a court order following a trademark complaint from iyO about our use of the name ‘io.’ We don’t agree with the complaint and are reviewing our options.”

This doesn’t mean that the deal is dead. OpenAI tells The Verge that the deal is still happening. However, because of the lawsuit, it cannot mention the name “io” on its website. For those unfamiliar, Iyo is a hearing device startup that came from Google’s moonshot factory. While the names and their intentions are different, we kind of see their point since pronouncing their names is similar and could create confusion.

We’re not sure what will happen next or if OpenAI and Ive’s io company will be forced to use a different name. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see.

OpenAI’s deal with Jony Ive

In case you’re hearing about this for the first time, Ive and Altman announced a partnership back in April. Under this partnership, Ive and Altman want to create dedicated AI hardware. OpenAI will pay $6.5 billion to acquire Ive’s company.

The details on the device are murky right now. However, sources have indicated it won’t be a wearable like the Rabbit R1. Some have suggested it could be a screenless phone. This makes sense, especially if AI is involved, since AI would do most of the heavy lifting without our input.

We have to say that we are pretty excited to see what Altman and Ive will churn out. Smartphones have been around for a while now. Most of the upgrades these days are marginal at best, so maybe it’s time for some disruptive tech. In fact, some analysts believe this is why Apple lagging behind in AI isn’t such a big deal.

It is because AI on our phones is added as an afterthought. Until a true AI-first device comes along, it might not be such a big deal that Apple Intelligence isn’t on par with the competition yet.
The post OpenAI drops ‘io’ mention from its website due to lawsuit appeared first on Android Headlines.

Source: ndroidheadlines.com

If you’re trying to find more information about OpenAI and its partnership with Jony Ive’s io company, you won’t find […]

[1

post-16944","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-bez-kategorii
["GET
