The South Korean tech giant could be planning to incorporate a similar functionality in One UI soon. A teardown of the One UI 8 beta code has indicated that Samsung may be planning to offer on-device voicemail functionality for Galaxy devices.

Samsung could offer on-device voicemail in One UI for Galaxy products

The folks over at Android Authority have spotted an on-device voicemail feature within Samsung’s One UI 8 beta code. As per the string of codes, Samsung’s feature will allow users to set the Galaxy phones to redirect incoming calls to an on-device voicemail. Similar to the Live Voicemail functionality in iOS, users can intercept the call while the caller is recording their message or check voicemails later.

Furthermore, the strings reveal that users will likely be able to customize the ring time before the call redirects to voicemail. As of now, the One UI code doesn’t mention anything about transcription-related functionality, which is available in iOS. Apple iPhone users can read real-time transcription of incoming voicemails as a caller is leaving a message.

However, Samsung has just begun testing the on-device voicemail feature, and future iterations of One UI may include real-time transcription functionality.

It’s worth mentioning that both Android and iOS devices already support carrier-driven voicemail services. However, the functionalities of these services can be either basic and handled by the carriers. But the on-device voicemail feature with live transcriptions could change the game for Galaxy users.

Could have limited availability first

Furthermore, the latest internal beta build of One UI 8 indicates that Samsung’s on-device voicemail feature will likely be available only in select countries. The source has found a list of countries within the code files. They include India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh. However, the company will likely include more regions once the feature goes live in the future.

As of now, this functionality isn’t live in One UI 8, even in the internal beta build. Samsung has already launched its latest major phones for the year, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, with One UI 8. The company didn’t hint towards this much-anticipated feature during the launch event. There’s a possibility that Samsung could use the Galaxy S26 series’ launch to introduce the new voicemail feature.

Apart from iPhones, Google’s Pixel devices also offer a similar feature, but it is only available in select regions. Google’s Pixel phones offer this in the form of Call Screen through the Google Phone app. As per recent reports, Google could launch Call Screen features for Pixel phone users in India soon, with wider availability in other regions later.
The post Samsung Phones May Get On-device Voicemail, Following iOS steps appeared first on Android Headlines.

Source: ndroidheadlines.com

Samsung appears to draw inspiration from the success of iOS’s Live Voicemail feature.
