This was possible due to the new “Trunk Stabe” development model. Now, Samsung has also confirmed that it has shifted to the latest model, and hence, the Android updates will now be rolling out faster than earlier.

Here’s what Google’s new Trunk Stable development

Until Android 16, Google used to follow the typical branch-based model of development for its Android OS. This means that the firm will first have to create an entirely separate branch of code before merging it into the main codebase of Android. Although this approach may appear simpler at first glance, it is actually quite complicated. It creates tons of problems while merging two codebases for an operating system that’s already very complex.

This model usually ends up in merger conflicts and stalls the release for a while. Developers also face a hard time eliminating bugs and glitches from the software. To bring a fix to this, Google has adopted the new trunk-based development model, which it calls “Trunk Stable.”

Samsung to push Android updates faster, thanks to “Trunk Stable”

Under the new Trunk-based development model, all changes and development happen directly to the main codebase of Android. And the good part is that the main system must remain “stable.” However, all the development, bug fixes, and feature additions happen behind the “feature flag,” and that’s why it remains hidden until finalized for the stable release.

The VP and GM of the Android Platform had said to Android Authority that they are working to ensure that other OEMs stick to Trunk Stable as closely as possible. Though he did not take the name of any particular brand, Samsung later said something related to this. Sally Hyesoon Jeong, Executive Vice President and Head of Framework R&D at Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business, confirmed that Samsung has shifted to the new trunk-based development model.

Samsung’s official also thanks the new development model, which made the rollout of One UI 8 powered by Android 16 happen faster than expected.
The post Samsung to Deliver Faster Android Updates with New Development Model appeared first on Android Headlines.

Source: ndroidheadlines.com

Google launched the Android 16 update two months earlier than its usual release schedule of August-September.
