Apple will add a new super-slim iPhone to its lineup this year, presumably the iPhone 17 Air. The device is tipped to get a battery capacity of under 3,000mAh. In comparison, a \u201cdirect rival,\u201d Galaxy S25 Edge, features a bigger 3,900mAh cell. In a recent development, the iPhone 17 Air battery thickness, including its metal case, has been leaked. Additionally, the alleged live images compare the thickness of the battery with the iPhone 17 Pro\u2019s cell.<\/p>\n

The alleged live images posted on the Korean Naver blog by \u201cyeux1122\u201d show that the iPhone 17 Air gets a slim battery pack. It is almost half as thin as the iPhone 17 Pro battery. The account claims the battery measures just 2.49mm in thickness, including the metal case.<\/p>\n
Interestingly, it was the same account that more recently claimed a 2,900mAh battery capacity for the iPhone 17 Air. However, there are no leaks surrounding the iPhone 17 Pro\u2019s battery at the moment. The iPhone 17 Pro Max\u2019s battery may reach 5,000mAh.<\/p>\n
Apple last used battery capacities below the 3,000mAh mark for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models. The new iPhone 17 Air, with around 5.5mm in thickness, could just be the thinnest iPhone ever.<\/p>\n
iPhone 17 Air may be really light<\/p>\n
The same Naver blog account, back in May, claimed the iPhone 17 Air will weigh approximately 145 grams, similar to the iPhone SE 2 or the iPhone 13 mini. The said iPhone models weigh 148 grams and 141 grams, respectively. Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, back in March, said that the phone will use a \u201chigh-density\u201d battery.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A recent report from Asia suggested that Apple supplier TDK is prepping to ship its new generation of silicon-anode batteries by the end of June. This means the iPhone 17 Air could be the first Apple handset to adopt the advanced battery technology. <\/p>\n
There have been varied opinions regarding the phone\u2019s battery performance. Reportedly, Apple is planning to release an optional battery case for the iPhone 17 Air to mitigate battery-related complaints. However, Bloomberg\u2019s Mark Gurman said that the iPhone 17 Air\u2019s battery life would be on \u201cpar with current iPhones\u201d courtesy of hardware and software optimizations.
