The price increase for the PS5 has finally reached US shores, as Sony has officially announced that the PS5 console, in all models, will now cost more to buy. It was only a matter of time, given that Sony already shot the price up in other regions around the globe. Sony announced the increase on the official PlayStation Blog on August 20.<\/p>\n

While this shouldn\u2019t be a surprise to US consumers, it\u2019s still a sad bit of news for anyone who hasn\u2019t yet gotten one or was looking to upgrade to the PS5 Pro. Sony had hinted at the prospect of raising the price of the console in the US earlier this year. At the time, the company said it was considering options and that ultimately, changing market factors might force a price increase.<\/p>\n

In its blog post this week, Sony said, \u201cWe continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we\u2019ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.\u201d That day is today, so if you haven\u2019t picked up a PS5 yet, you\u2019ll now have to pay the higher price.<\/p>\n

The PS5 price in the US will now increase to $549.99<\/p>\n

A price increase on consoles, or any products you enjoy, is never what you want. However, sometimes it happens. In the case of the PS5, the price isn\u2019t going up a whole lot, although it may be more than some consumers are able to manage. The PS5 Slim with the disc drive will now go up to $549.99. Meanwhile, the digital edition will go up to $499.99. Lastly, the PS5 Pro will now cost $749.99. All of these prices take effect today, August 21, and across all retailers.<\/p>\n

There is one way you could potentially score a PS5 for less, though. You could try your hand at picking one up second-hand from a third-party seller. The good news in all this is that the prices for accessories haven\u2019t been touched. The PS VR2 will stay at the same price, as will the prices of the DualSense controller and any other PlayStation accessories.
