Samsung, with its Galaxy S25 series and new foldables, had a very good 2025. Similarly, the iPhone 17 series is off to a good start for the Cupertino giant. However, when it comes to the top spot, though, there’s only one winner. We’re talking about Samsung, which beat Apple for the third straight quarter with Q3 2025 global phone sales.

Samsung beats Apple in Q3 2025 global smartphone sales

According to market research firms IDC (via Reuters) and Omdia, Samsung topped the Q3 2025 charts, surpassing Apple in phone sales. The South Korean giant is said to have captured a 19% market share with 61.4 million shipments. Meanwhile, Apple came in a close second with 18% market share and 58.6 million units. The numbers are reportedly up from a year ago, mainly because the smartphone market as a whole is seeing growth. This is a positive development after not-so-encouraging results in Q1 and Q2 2025.

Omdia, in its report, says that the global smartphone market grew 3% year-on-year in Q3 2025. This signals a growth momentum driven by major product launches during the quarter. After Samsung and Apple, it’s Xiaomi, Transsion, and Vivo (in that order) in the top five chart.

Samsung’s new 7th-generation foldables outperformed earlier models

IDC’s report notes that a total of 322.7 million units were shipped during the July-September quarter. This marks a 2.6% increase from the same timeline last year. Though Apple is trailing, the reports note that the demand for Apple’s new iPhone 17 lineup is solid, with pre-orders surpassing those of the previous generation. We should see far better Apple results in Q4 2025, maybe even surpass Samsung. This is considering it had the iPhone 17 series on the store shelves just for a couple of weeks during this quarter.

The IDC report notes that Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 outperformed all earlier foldable models. This is not only a boost for Samsung but also creates better momentum for the foldable segment. In addition to the foldables, Omdia credits even the Galaxy A-series for the company’s performance in the quarter.

Lastly, predicting the future, IDC maintains positive prospects for the rest of 2025. It projects strong year-end sales, driven by aggressive promotions, AI, and other innovations.

The post Samsung Outsold Apple for Third Straight Quarter in Global Phone Sales appeared first on Android Headlines.

Source: ndroidheadlines.com

Apple and Samsung are among the top smartphone brands in the world.
