The PS5, like the PS4, allows you to save video recordings of your games, and it’s possible to change the resolution of those videos on the new PS5.
\nIn some cases you may want to keep the resolution at its default setting. For example, if you plan to share your clips on Twitter. Keeping that in mind, changing the resolution is another one of those features that’s not exactly easy to find.
\nWith this handy guide though, you’ll have no trouble changing the resolution of your PS5 video recordings moving forward. That is assuming you even like to save them in the first place. And even if you don’t right now, but think you might in the future, it doesn’t hurt to know where this particular feature is so you can change it if you ever decide to.
\nHow to change the resolution of your PS5 video recordings
\nHead to the settings menu<\/p>\n
First things first, head to the settings menu which is where the video resolution setting is located. If you’ve checked out any of our other PS5 How To guides, then you probably already know that the settings menu is accessed by clicking on the cog button in the top right corner that sits next to your profile avatar.
\nYou’ll also likely see this as a trend. As many of the things we’ll be doing how to guides on will need you to take a journey over to the settings menu where many of the things you can adjust or alter are tucked away.
\nScroll to Captures and Broadcasts<\/p>\n

\nOnce you’re in settings, scroll all the way to the bottom of the settings menu and find the\u00a0Captures and Broadcasts\u00a0section of the menu.
\nIn here you’ll find configurable settings for captures, broadcasts, and trophies. The\u00a0captures\u00a0menu is the one you’re wanting, where you’ll find three more options. These include\u00a0shortcuts for create button, as well as\u00a0screenshot format,\u00a0and\u00a0video clip format.
\nSince we’re trying to change the resolution for the video clips, that last option is the one you want. Click on that and you’ll see a slightly larger list of things that you can change. Like the the file type of the video, resolution of the video, and whether you want party or mic audio to be included in the clips.
\nSelect manual recording resolution<\/p>\n
To change the resolution of your PS5 video recordings, click on the manual recording resolution option.
\nIn doing so you can swap between two different resolution options for the PS5 video recordings that you save. But as you may have already guessed, this only counts for manual recordings.
\nNow you may be asking yourself,\u00a0what constitutes a manual recording? A manual recording on the PS5 is any clip that you save after manually starting the recording of your gameplay. If you hit the share button and then save recent clips, which grabs a video of the last 15 minutes, this does not count.
\nYou will have to begin recording, then stop the recording manually and those videos are what you can change the resolution for. Your options here are 1920 x 1080, or 3840 x 2160.
\nYour only option for letting the PS5 save recent clips, and using those instead of the manual recordings, is 1920 x 1080.
\nHigher resolution PS5 recordings can only be saved in MP4<\/p>\n
In addition to choosing between two different video resolution options, you have two options for file type. Which are MP4 and WebM. WebM is more efficient and allows for smaller file sizes. But MP4 is more compatible.
\nAnd if you want to save recordings in the 3840 x 2160 resolution, you’ll need to be ok with those videos being saved in MP4 format as the PS5 won’t let you save them as a WebM.
\nThis probably isn’t going to be an issue for most people. And if you’re planning on sharing these videos on Twitter, it does support MP4. You can also trim the videos down to fit within the constraints of sharing on social media if you need to.
\nChange the resolution and frames per second of your broadcasts<\/p>\n
If you ever venture into the realm of broadcasting your gameplay, you can change the resolution for that too. Though, your options can be a little bit more limited here while at the same time being more extensive.
\nWhat I mean by this is that you have no resolution options higher than 1920 x 1080, but you do have more options. You can set it to 1920 x 1080 at both 30fps and 60fps, and then there options for 1280 x 720 at 30fps and 60fps as well.
