Now, via The Verge, we know that Instagram is going to be retiring the IGTV and boosting the video capabilities on its main app.
You can now watch longer videos on the main Instagram app
The extinction of IGTV might make a few people sad, but only a few people. No one really talks about the app nowadays, and it seems that Instagram itself lost faith in it a while back.
However, this isn’t all bad news, as the main Instagram app can now support longer videos. As it stood, you could only post a video for up to 60 seconds. This wasn’t a big of an issue before back when Instagram was mostly for photos. Nowadays, people use the app for a lot of video content, making longer videos necessary.
Now, users can post videos up to 60 minutes long. It’s not quite as robust as YouTube which can support hours upon hours, but it’s much improved.
Now, there’s a new Instagram Video tab
Before, there was a line drawn between your Instagram videos and your IGTV videos but not anymore. Now, when you check out your profile, you will see a new Instagram video tab. It takes the place of the IGTV tab that housed those videos. Now, all of the videos that you’ve uploaded to Instagram will be under the tab, no matter the length.
But, what about the IGTV app?
Even though Instagram is getting rid of the IGTV platform, it doesn’t mean that it’s getting rid of the app. During this whole transition, Instagram rebranded IGTV as Instagram TV. Though we don’t expect it to get much traction, it’s being kept so people who actually liked IGTV can still view the content.
This is part of a new push for Instagram in the video market
A few months ago, Adam Mosseri announced to the public that Instagram was going to be focusing more on video content. He said that Instagram is “no longer a photo-sharing app.” This is true; a lot of the content shared on Instagram is video content. Being able to upload only 60-second videos wasn’t a huge problem a few years ago, but now, video content is extremely important in our modern age.
Thanks to YouTube, Tiktok, and other video platforms, creators have been able to make a living and even establish a wealthy living. Instagram might be making the right move by focusing on a more robust video experience.
The post Instagram Ditches IGTV, Makes Instagram Video appeared first on Android Headlines.

Source: ndroidheadlines.com

IGTV has been struggling to find its place among the social media pantheon.
