Huawei Watch GT 2 Leaked Images Surface

It seems like Huawei is now gearing up for the launch of a Watch GT successor. Per a new report, the Huawei Watch GT 2 will be a marginal upgrade over the original smartwatch, with a couple of important changes.
The report allegedly provides us with the first glimpse of the watch. Looks-wise, it’s largely the same as the first generation accessory. It seems to have a smaller footprint and the edges seem thinner, resulting in more screen estate.
Huawei Watch GT 2 Will Likely Last More Than Two Weeks On A Single Charge
One of the things that contributed to the success of the Watch GT is its longevity and the successor will apparently improve on that. It will presumably come with a 445mAh battery, slightly bigger than the 420mAh cell found in the previous model.
Like the predecessor, this one is also expected to have built-in GPS and an optical heart rate monitor. As with the first model, it will be possible to track different physical activities such as running, hiking, and swimming with the upcoming version. What’s new is that the Huawei Watch GT 2 is also expected to get an integrated microphone and a speaker. With these additions, it will be possible to make calls using the watch. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the watch will get LTE integration as the connection might be made using Bluetooth.
The report also claims that the second generation Watch GT will be available in two flavors. There will be a Sport variant with a plastic strap and a Classic model with a leather strap. The Watch GT runs Huawei’s own LiteOS and rumor has it that the HarmonyOS is partially based on it. Thus, it remains a mystery if the new model will come with Huawei’s recently unveiled operating system. This might not be a smart idea as it will reduce the number of apps users have access to.
The Watch Might Make An Appearance During IFA
As for other details, the Huawei Watch GT 2 is reportedly codenamed „Latona” and its model number is LTN-B19. The accessory has seemingly been spotted in various government databases, which indicates that it might be arriving soon. The last year’s model was revealed alongside the Mate 20 in October which means we might see the successor when the Mate 30 is announced on September 19. However, it’s also likely that the watch will be launched during the IFA 2019.
Back in June, it was reported that Huawei was able to sell more than two million units of the Watch GT since its release in October. Needless to say, it was quite a success. According to analytics firm IDC, Huawei’s smartphone shipment grew a whopping 282.2 percent year-over-year during the first quarter of 2019. This was way more than Apple’s growth of 49.5 percent during the same time period.
However, the recent tensions surrounding the Chinese company will likely impact its smartwatch shipments as well. Other than that, the tech giant is also facing a components embargo, which can interfere with its ability to make chipsets for its devices.
