Best Of IFA 2019 – Huawei FreeBuds 3

Huawei made the first pair of truly wireless earbuds suited for audiophiles
Huawei did not show off a new phone at IFA 2019, that’s becoming more of a rarity with the company these days. Instead it showed off a new pair of truly wireless earbuds – the FreeBuds 3. As well as a few other products.
These new truly wireless earbuds do look familiar, but if we’ve learned one thing in the world of tech, don’t just a book by its cover.
FreeBuds finally get active noise cancellation
This is a huge feature, and one that Huawei desperately needed to add to its truly wireless headphones. And the FreeBuds 3 gets it.
ANC or Active Noise Cancellation, is going to make using these earbuds a lot better, especially when you’re in a noisy environment like a subway or walking down a street.
This is something we’re seeing with more and more truly wireless earbuds coming out in 2019. For instance the Sony WF-1000X M3 also sports ANC. But ANC is not why the FreeBuds 3 are going to be awesome for audiophiles.
Huawei Freebuds 3 – Wireless Charging
Huawei has also brought wireless charging along, so the FreeBuds 3 can sit on a wireless charger and charge. No more needing to use a cable. Though if you do need to charge them via a cable, they do now use USB-C.
Huawei’s addition of High-Quality Audio is going to make many take a second look
As we said earlier, don’t judge a book by its cover. And that still holds true here.
Huawei added High-Quality Audio to the FreeBuds 3. Something that the AirPods – that many are comparing these too – do not have.
With this High-Quality Audio, you’re going to get a really great audio experience out of these. And it also has some powerful 14mm drivers in each ear.
The new Kirin A1 AI chipset is also included here. This is going to support high-res audio, at up to 2.3Mbps. That’s a pretty high transfer-rate, seeing as Sony’s industry-leading LDAC tech is only about 900Kbps. Meaning that high-res audio should have no problem here.
Not to mention, it is also future-proof.
Huawei has also included a Bluetooth 5.1 wearable chipset, which is able to support dual-channel Bluetooth. What this means is 30-percent lower latency and 50-percent lower power consumption, when compared to the competition. Meaning less lag in your music, and even longer battery life.
Now, Huawei hasn’t mentioned price on the FreeBuds 3, but it did say that they would be cheaper than the AirPods. Those currently cost $159, which isn’t a crazy price in the world of truly wireless headphones. But if the FreeBuds 3 can offer all of this and come in cheaper than $159, then they definitely earn a Best of IFA 2019 award.
