Huawei has now fully revealed two new dual-tone colors for its premier flagship, the Huawei P30 Pro, in conjunction with IFA 2019. Officially shared via two promotional clips on Twitter, these are the first such Huawei devices to feature a two-tone finish.
New color options stack on top of previously available — and still good-looking — configurations. Dubbed „Misty Blue” and „Misty Lavendar,” those join stately Black, Pearl White, colorful Aurora, orange and red-shifted Amber Sunrise, and holo-pearlescent Breathing Crystal.
Where the new hues differ is in their solid, gradient-free aesthetic. Misty Blue is a green-tinted deep blue color. Misty Lavender, as its name suggests, is a pink-shifted purple color. Both of the colors are split between a high-gloss shine and a flat matte. The former finish is applied to the top third of the device while the lower portion is matte.
Is a two-tone finish really that important?
Although this is Huawei’s first use of two-tone colors and despite the associated „#RethinkEvolution” and „#RethinkElegance” hashtags, the new colors are not wholly original. The styling will be very familiar to anybody who has watched the aesthetics of Google’s Pixel-branded flagships.
Now, Google never used the exact RGB mix Huawei is currently touting but its decision to use the dual-tone effect now probably isn’t an accident either. The design language used on the back of Pixel devices has long been a selling point. Recent rumors and leaks have suggested the search giant isn’t going to continue using that scheme for its handsets though. So Huawei may be doing itself a favor by filling in that niche.
The smartphone itself, in spite of concerns about continued support for Android updates due to an ongoing trade war, is among the strongest competitors Google Pixel 4 will likely face. If Google does abandon the dual-tone design and makes other missteps, that fact will become more prominent.
Huawei’s use of these colors could make the Huawei P30 Pro more appealing for anybody who might start looking for something new elsewhere. They’ll certainly be appealing anywhere Google’s Pixel devices aren’t readily available but Huawei devices are as well.
An unoriginal shift in colors but Huawei’s P30 Pro is still a great device
The Huawei P30 Pro was first launched just shy of half-a-year ago, so the new colors additionally serve to help build fresh momentum. The handset is built around a curved 6.47-inch 1080 x 2340 OLED panel featuring a water-drop notch at the front.
Embedded in that is a 32-megapixel snapper with autofocus, contrasted by a triple camera at the back. The latter contains a 40-megapixel wide-angle camera, coupled with a 20-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera.
Internally, an in-house AI-heavy Kirin 980 SoC drives Android 9 Pie-based an EMUI 9.1 skin. Android 10 is now set to start rolling out for the device at some point in the near future. Behind the processor, a healthy 6GB or 8GB of memory is selectable. That’s coupled with options for 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of microSD expandable storage.
In fact, the Huawei P30 Pro could be summarily described as a direct competitor to Samsung’s current flagship device. That’s the Galaxy Note 10+, making it a top player by nearly any measure.
