ASUS has officially announced its Chromebook Flip C433 just days after images of the device reportedly leaked out. The company hasn’t revealed every detail about the new Chrome OS laptop just yet. But it has confirmed some speculation about the device while showcasing a serious update in terms of power.
Prior to the unveiling, this device was expected to move in the opposite direction in terms of its internal powerhouse. In fact, it was initially speculated that ASUS might choose to launch the device with AMD hardware instead of Intel to differentiate from its existing Chromebook Flip C434 lineup. Now that the company has announced the gadget, it’s apparent it has chosen to move in the opposite direction.
What about the Chromebook Flip C433 was unexpected?
Despite being dropped in model designation by a single number, this Chromebook is powered by Intel’s dual-core 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8500Y processor. The device’s counterpart ships with an Intel Core m3 Processor by comparison.
The chipset here is no longer backed by a relatively paltry 4GB of RAM either. Instead, ASUS is offering up to 8GB of RAM. For storage, the company has doubled capacity from 64GB to 128GB of eMMC storage. That’s expandable up to 2TB via a microSD card.
All of that is backed up by a 48Wh battery. ASUS has tested that to provide up to 10-hours of battery between charges.
ASUS delivers on design with its Chromebook Flip C433
Contrary to expectations for the internals, ASUS’s Chromebook Flip C433 aligns well with predictions about its design based on the previously leaked renders. The new Chromebook is a 2-in-1 design, as its name implies, and it keeps the 14-inch display panel. That’s a Full HD display just like in its namesake predecessor.
The screen features a NanoEdge display design, allowing for a screen-to-body ratio of 85-percent. It’s set onto the full-size backlit keyboard portion via a 360-degree hinge with ErgoLift. That means that not only should the 1.4mm key travel make for a comfortable experience. The back of the keyboard lifts to provide a more ergonomic experience when it is used in clamshell mode rather than a tent, stand, or tablet mode.
The designs oversized touchpad features palm-rejection for a better experience too.
As shown in the images that leaked prior to the announcement, the Chromebook Flip C433 features side-mounted speakers on either side of the lower frame. The frame, engineered to be lighter and thinner with a squared-off design, delivers plenty of connection options too. That includes one USB Type-A port and two USB Type-C ports, in addition to its microSD card slot.
For wireless connections, ASUS has incorporated dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0.
Pricing and availability
Availability details surrounding the new ASUS Chromebook Flip C433 are almost as slim as the laptop itself. The company says it will become available in the UK sometime in mid-October. For that region, ASUS indicates it will be sold via the official ASUS site and elsewhere online. Pricing is set to start from £499. That’s approximately $621, but no U.S. availability or pricing has been detailed yet.
