Qualcomm's Newest 5G Chips Are The Snapdragon 865 & Snapdragon 765

Qualcomm has now announced the Snapdragon 865 and the Snapdragon 765/765G mobile chips.
These are the latest and most powerful Snapdragon mobile platforms to come from the company.
Both new Snapdragon mobile SoCs are designed to further usher in the use of 5G and AI.
Two powerful Snapdragon mobile SoCs coming
It had been expected that Qualcomm would announce its latest chip at the company’s „Snapdragon Tech Summit” event in Hawaii. However, Qualcomm took the opportunity to announce two new 5G mobile platforms.
The first is the Snapdragon 865 Mobile Platform. This is the company’s flagship mobile platform and follows on from the Snapdragon 855. This is the same chip that’s currently powering the majority of flagship smartphones on the market today.
The Snapdragon 865 comes equipped with the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System. Which, according to Qualcomm, makes it „the world’s most advanced 5G platform” on the market.
The other newly-announced Snapdragon platform is the Snapdragon 765/765G. This is the latest SoC to be added to the Snapdragon 700 series and seems destined to continue the series’ goal of offering higher end features at a less than high-end price.
Qualcomm specifically mentions that the Snapdragon 765/765G will provide users with „5G connectivity, advanced AI processing, and select Snapdragon Elite Gaming experiences.”
New Snapdragon SoC details still limited
While Qualcomm has now officially unveiled these two new mobile chip platforms, the company has yet to provide specific details on what they offer.
The unveiling of the two new mobile platforms took place during the company’s Snapdragon Tech Summit in Hawaii. This is an event that has only just started and is expected to go on for the next couple of days.
Qualcomm is expected to release in depth and detailed information on both new Snapdragon mobile platforms as the event goes on.
Regardless of what is announced tomorrow and the day after, what is clear is that it will take some time before either of these chips begin to show up in devices.
Typically, while Qualcomm tends to announce its flagship SoC at this time of the year, it is not until the Spring of the following year when the chip makes its debut in a new device. More recently, around the time Samsung unveils its latest Galaxy S smartphone.
If the same pattern follows suit this time, then that should mean it will be around March/April when the Samsung Galaxy S11 goes on sale.
