Samsung Galaxy S10 owners based in the U.S have now started receiving the Android 10 update. Apparently, only the T-Mobile and Sprint models of the Galaxy S10 series are getting the latest version of Android at the moment. Additionally, Canadian carrier TELUS has also begun upgrading its Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10e users to Android 10.
Samsung Delivering On Its Promise To Upgrade Some Phones To Android 10 Before 2019 Ends
The company had already starting updating its Exynos-powered S10 flagships earlier. Usually, the European and Asian bound models are powered by Samsung’s own SoC. American and Chinese users, on the other hand, get Qualcomm powered phones. This means the chaebol has to put in more work than other vendors to get the update ready for its entire user base.
On a related note, that will seemingly change next year. According to a new report, Samsung believes that Qualcomm chips outperform its own. And that’s why with the exception of the European variants of the Galaxy S11, all models will apparently be fueled by the Snapdragon 865 SoC.
Other than that, carriers also get to make decisions regarding the rollout. That’s perhaps the reason why Verizon and AT&T devices haven’t started getting the update yet. However, it will presumably not be long before they starting sending out the update too.
Regardless, Samsung is usually a lot slower than its competitors when it comes to software updates. And when it comes to premium devices, users obviously expect better. After all, many cheaper devices actually receive the newest version of Android before Samsung’s high-end phones.
However, that slowly seems to be changing. Initially, the company had planned to bring Android 10 to the U.S. in January 2020. But, as we are witnessing, it is ahead of its schedule this time around. And not just that, as previously the company used to take much longer to update the U.S. variants after shipping the new version to the international models.
In fact, some reports claim that even unlocked Galaxy S10 models are getting the update. Moreover, Galaxy Note 10 is also getting upgraded in some markets.
The Update Comes With The December Security Patch
Of course, the final update comes after plenty of extensive testing. If you are a beta user, the update will be 133.76MB in size. However, if you are upgrading from Android 9, it weighs around 2GB. So, it goes without saying that you should download it over WiFi instead of using data.
The stable version of Android 10 is being shipped along with One UI 2.0 and the December security patch. Android 10 related improvements include a system-wide dark theme and gesture-based navigation amongst other things.
Samsung has also made improvements to its One UI skin. Some changes include better proprietary apps and additional ways to access the one-handed mode. The overall design has also changed slightly, making the interface look clearer and more optimized.
