AH Awards: Best Battery Smartphone Of 2019 – Huawei P30 Pro

When it comes to battery life, the Huawei P30 Pro smartphone reigns supreme. This handset goes above and beyond in terms of battery life, and if you ever need a top-up, it offers extremely fast charging.
The Huawei P30 Pro is one of the company’s 2019 flagships, and it’s the best smartphone in terms of battery life in the market. Well, at least as far as regular, mainstream devices are concerned, we’re not counting those devices which pack in 10,000mAh+ battery packs on the inside. Those are usually budget devices that don’t have a single advantage over a proper flagship, other than their battery size. The Huawei P30 Pro smartphone is a whole package, it has plenty to offer in more or less every way, and especially when it comes to battery life.
Full disclosure we did not really get to review the Mate 30 Pro yet. I’m sure you’re aware of the whole US ban deal, and the lack of Google services on the phone. Long story short, the P30 Pro is a far better benchmark when it comes to battery life. This device was announced back in February, and is one of Huawei’s flagship offerings for 2019. The Huawei P30 Pro smartphone includes a 4,200mAh battery, while it has a 6.47-inch fullHD+ OLED display. That display, in collaboration with Huawei’s software, and that large battery on the inside, keep this phone alive for really long periods of time.
It can last for two whole days if you’re not a power user, without a problem
Unless you’re really trying to kill the phone in a single day with intensive gaming, and you do that for the vast majority of the day, this phone will be just fine. In fact, it can easily last for two days for non-power users. As a point of reference, check out the gallery below this paragraph. I’m a power user, and this phone just keeps going, no matter what. I crossed the 8-hour screen-on-time threshold several times with this device, and on each of those occasions, the phone still had over 20-percent of battery left. Sounds hard to believe? Well, it was for me as well, at first.
You will notice five screenshots in the gallery above. Each of those screenshots includes a battery percentage, time of day, and screen-on-time stat. In the first example, it was 3:47 PM, and the phone’s display was used for over 5 hours. The phone’s battery stood at a whopping 65-percent. In another example, it was 8:55 PM, the display was used for over 6 hours, and the battery life stood at 55-percent. The most extreme example is probably the last image in that gallery. In that instance, it was 9:04 PM, and it was a true power user day. The screen was awake for almost nine hours, and the phone still had 24-percent of battery charge left.
These examples are speaking for itself. During those days, the phone was used for taking photos, browsing the web, light gaming, watching YouTube videos, and various other things. Not a single other flagship-grade smartphone in the market comes close to these numbers. When a phone is able to cross 6, 6 and a half hours of screen-on-time before being in danger of dying, it is considered to offer great battery life. Well, the Huawei P30 Pro goes above and beyond that, so I guess the word for its battery life is 'amazing’.
If it sounds like I keep on praising this phone’s battery life, well, that’s exactly what I’m doing. Once you use something like that, and you’re a power user, it’s really difficult to go back. There’s nothing worse than having to charge your phone in the middle of the day, at least for me. Battery life is one of the most important aspects of every phone for me, that’s for sure. If the phone dies at 3 PM, I don’t really care how quickly it will charge, I just don’t want the hassle of having to charge it in the middle of my day. You may not mind that, many people don’t, but there you have it.
It even has 40W fast wired charging
The Huawei P30 Pro also offers extremely fast charging, for when it comes time to top it off. The phone comes with 40W SuperCharge fast wired charging. This charging can get its battery from 0 to 70-percent in about 30 minutes. On top of wired charging, the P30 Pro also offers wireless charging. You’ll have access to 15W wireless charging here, though you’ll need a proper charger for it. Speaking of chargers, Huawei’s 40W charging brick is included in the box, for wired charging. On top of all that, this handset also comes with reverse wireless charging. So, you can use it as a power back as well. Unlike most other phones, using this device as a power back actually makes sense. Why? Well, it will not completely cripple your phone’s battery life in the process (having in mind how long it can last on a single charge).
All in all, if you’re a true power user, and you simply hate charging your phone in the middle of the day, you should at least consider this device. Giving the Huawei P30 Pro this award was a no-brainer. Huawei did a great job with optimizations here. It did all that without any issues with the delivery of notifications, or anything of the sort (on EMUI 10). The phone is not as intensive when it comes to killing background apps either, at least not as it was a couple of years back. I had to specifically look at how things work in order to find something. I didn’t notice anything during my usage. EMUI still needs polishing, and whatnot, but all in all, Huawei did a great job.
