AH Awards: Best Chromebook of 2019 – Google Pixelbook Go

Every year, Android Headlines passes out awards to the best devices on the market and a Chromebook is generally among those. Typically, that is parceled out based on the best specifications and other aspects of a given device that make them a great value to would-be buyers. Following in that tradition, this year’s Google Pixelbook Go is going to be the best candidate for our awards.
What makes the Pixelbook Go such a great device isn’t necessarily that it’s the best available specs on the market. You can certainly purchase one that will leave most behind choking on the kicked-up dust. That’s going to cost an exorbitant amount of money, comparatively. But that doesn’t have to be the case.
No. What makes the Pixelbook Go so good is its versatility as a back-to-basics device that can get work done and is super portable. This device is a step away from the previous Pixelbook and Pixel-branded Chrome OS hardware. It moves toward functionality and away from trying to offer everything within a single device.
There are a variety of Pixelbook Go devices available. At a $649 to $1,399 — with frequent sales to make it cheaper and monthly financing available — it serves as a strong example of what any Chromebook should aspire to be in terms of value that fits almost any niche.
The Google Pixelbook Go is the best Chromebook you can buy
If you need a Chromebook with a Pen or that’s a two-in-one convertible, this isn’t going to be the Chromebook for you. For top-end specs, it may be better to look at an Acer Chromebook Spin 13 or a Dell Inspiron 2-in-1 14. If those specs are a bit overkill, an HP Chromebook x2 or Samsung Chromebook Plus or Pro are some of the best convertibles. Those were launched last year, though, and although each comes with a pen, the HP completely detaches into a tablet. A Google Pixel Slate may be best in the tablet category.
But are those things really what you need? In many cases, the answer will be a resounding no. The Pixelbook Go offers the best performance on the market at varying levels. It does so in a solid, ruggedly built but still sleek form factor with grip-focused design and multiple colors to better suit personality. Simultaneously, it will both work and is comfortable to use.
Moreover, the Google Pixelbook Go is designed by Google to work to provide the best possible results with Chrome OS — compounding the reasons it is worthy of awards. That doesn’t mean it will necessarily get updates faster. But it is very likely it will continue to get updates for longer. That’s been the case with each Google-built Chromebook to-date. Since Google only guarantees Chromebooks for around 6.5-years of updates after the first build, that’s a serious advantage. Especially because the Pixelbook Go is a new device as of October.
Obviously, the Pixelbook Go isn’t going to be for everybody. But it will be the best Chromebook for most users who need to get work done. That’s in a package that should last throughout its lifecycle and then some. For Android Headlines, that’s as close to perfect as it can get.
All of that means the Pixelbook Go is by far the strongest contender for the best Chromebook of 2019 and has earned its place in our awards list. It’s the return to basics option that Chromebooks were sorely missing and, in our opinion, the pick of the year.
