According to a new report, Huawei plans to announce its new foldable smartphone in March, and it will be called the Mate Xs. This information comes from a Chinese site 'My Drivers’, and the source says it’s provided by the „industry chain”.
The Huawei Mate Xs may arrive in March, not February
This is quite odd, as Huawei’s CEO hinted recently that a revised version of the Mate X will be launched in February. Perhaps the company changed its mind, or the source is talking about when will it become available.
Regardless, the revised version of the Mate X is coming. Based on the newly-surfaced info, that new variant of the phone will be called the Mate Xs, which was to be expected as that variant already launched in China.
The Huawei Mate Xs will include an improved display, and an improved hinge as well, says the source. The device will also pack in a new processor, the Kirin 990.
We already know exactly what to expect, as this device was announced in China last year. In terms of the design, we really did not see any major changes. It seems like Huawei did tweak the display and hinge, but that’s nothing that you’d notice on the outside, at least not straight away.
The Huawei Mate X never made it to the global market
The Huawei Mate X never made it to the global market. The main reason for that is the US ban that Huawei had to deal with. The company cannot pre-install Google services on its phones at this point, and asking users to purchase this €2,400 phone without access to the Play Store and Google apps probably prevented Huawei from selling it thus far.
Huawei is developing its very own alternatives to Google’s offerings, and it seems to be ready to offer HMS on its devices, at least to a degree. If that were not the case, the Mate Xs would not be coming at all.
The Huawei Mate Xs is not the only flagship-grade phone that Huawei is planning to annouce soon. The company’s P series flagships are also coming, the P40 and P40 Pro.
Those two phones will become official at the end of March, Huawei’s CEO confirmed recently. In fact, having this new info in mind, the P40 series and Mate Xs may launch at the same time in March.
Huawei is obviously planning to host a separate event at the end of March, so… it makes sense. All those devices will be fueled by the Kirin 990, by the way.
The Huawei P40 already surfaced recently. The device appeared in a render, which seems to be quite legit. If it is, you can expect the device to include a pill-shaped camera hole, similar to the Galaxy S10+.
It remains to be seen how will Huawei deal with the issue of not having access to GMS. HMS will almost certainly come as an option, but it remains to be seen if it’s truly ready to go.
