Surprise, surprise, LG has started rolling out the Android 10 update to the V50 ThinQ.
However, right now it is only available in Korea. That is typically where LG starts its roll outs though, and then quickly brings them to the rest of Asia and Europe. The US is typically much later due to the fact that carriers have to certify these updates.
The update is a big one, so if you do have this update available on your V50 ThinQ, you’re going to want to make sure you are on WiFi before you download the update. It’ll also be faster.
What can I expect from the Android 10 update?
Android 10 brings a number of new features, though it’s unclear whether LG will keep these in their version or not.
The big change is new gestures for going home, back and getting to recents. We’ve seen some manufacturers do these differently, like Samsung. But LG seems to be sticking with Google’s gestures, at least according tot he changelog. This is smart for LG, considering Google is going to force its partners to use the same gestures across the board, starting with Android 11 when that rolls out later this year.
Now according to the changelog that LG has provided (surprisingly, I know), V50 ThinQ owners can expect to have the pop-up window mode added. As well as photo and video mode being separated in the camera app. And there is also the December 2019 security patch. Not quite the most up to date patch, but we’ll take it.
So it’s going to be a pretty good update for the LG V50 ThinQ. There is also going to be a decent amount of bug fixes included in this update as well. As there always are.
How can I get the Android 10 update?
Android 10 is starting to roll out to the LG V50 ThinQ right now, in Korea. So if you are in Korea or have a Korean V50 ThinQ, then you can head to settings and get your update. Hit the Settings, then About Phone, Software, Check for update.
If you don’t have a Korean V50 ThinQ model, then you’re going to have to wait a bit longer. There is a V50 ThinQ model available on Verizon and Sprint in the US. And it’s possible that those two models could be waiting a few more months before they get their updates, unfortunately. We’ll just have to wait and see.
