Yesterday NVIDIA announced on its forums for GeForce NOW that it would be removing Activision Blizzard games from the cloud gaming service.
The decision is not one that the company made lightly. Nor was it a decision the company made on its own. According to NVIDIA, Activision Blizzard requested that the games be removed.
This means that as of now, you will no longer be able to play games from either company through GeForce NOW. Games like Overwatch, Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Heroes of The Storm and others.
And quite frankly, games which set GeForce NOW apart from services like Stadia. Which it always seems to be compared to. If you like the idea of playing Activision Blizzard games through the cloud, you’ll need to stick to Shadow.
NVIDIA wants to bring Activision Blizzard games back to GeForce NOW
Though the games were removed per Activision Blizzard’s request, NVIDIA is hoping this will change someday.
For now the games are unavailable. NVIDIA however says that it hopes to work with Activision Blizzard in the future to bring the games back. Whether or not that will happen is unknown.
NVIDIA also doesn’t give a reason for why the games were requested to be removed. Whatever the reason though, the result is the same. If you want to play Activision Blizzard games on PC you’ll be limited to playing either through the Battle.net launcher (for current games), or through Steam or other store fronts where you may have purchased a digital copy of past games.
Or of course through Shadow which still works since it’s more or less remote access to your PC.
More games are coming
There are already a lot of different titles you can play on GeForce NOW. NVIDIA also notes that it’s working with studios to bring a lot more games to the service.
According to the company studios have asked NVIDIA to add their games. In total the company says 1,500 games have been requested to be on-boarded.  Though there’s no guarantee that all of them will be added, NVIDIA still says that players should keep an eye out.
It’ll be doing weekly updates about GeForce NOW and this is where players will be able to officially learn about new games coming online.
GeForce NOW exited its beta phase back on February 4. Following years of beta testing with a carefully selected group of players. The service offers a free tier as well as a paid tier that costs $5 a month.
