OPPO is canceling its Find X2 Global Launch Event in light of the new coronavirus epidemic.
OPPO Find X2 event canceled after MWC 2020
The Android OEM says it takes the coronavirus outbreak seriously. „OPPO respects and understands GSMA’s decision to cancel the MWC Barcelona 2020 event. After serious consideration, we have also decided to reschedule the OPPO Find X2 Global Launch Event, originally scheduled on 22nd February. As of now, the event will be rescheduled for March and more information will be shared soon. Thank you for your continued support, and we kindly look forward to unveiling our latest flagship 5G smartphone in the near future,” the company said.
The OPPO Find X2 event was originally scheduled for February 22nd. Mobile World Congress (MWC) was to last from February 24th-27th. OPPO’s Find X2 launch event was intended to be a pre-MWC 2020 session, not a part of MWC itself. Now the event will take place next month, March. A specific date is not available just yet.
Coronavirus cancels OPPO Find X2 event
OPPO says it respects the GSMA’s decision to cancel MWC 2020. But the company doesn’t mention why the GSMA is canceling MWC. The reason pertains to the recent coronavirus outbreak from last month. Coronavirus is now responsible for the deaths of 1,359 people, with over 60,000 people sick globally. Coronavirus is now responsible for the loss of an additional 254 lives overnight in China. Japan says it has 218 cases of coronavirus. A cruise ship that’s been stationed there for two weeks is responsible for the Japanese outbreak.
With such a major outbreak globally, and the death toll rising, the GSMA made a wise decision to cancel the global conference. OPPO, in response to the outbreak, and to protect its own employees and others, is canceling its launch event.
Bringing so many people together globally could lead to another major death toll and outbreak. The key to dealing with coronavirus is education and prevention, to minimize the outbreak. Canceling press events makes sense at this point.
In this regard, OPPO is following the lead of companies such as ZTE, LG, Huawei, Ericsson, NVIDIA, Sony, Ulefone, and others. These companies canceled their conferences days before the GSMA delivered its final decision on MWC.
Find X2 Specs
The OPPO Find X2 global launch event is postponed currently. There are some details about the upcoming smartphone that are available. First, as OPPO says in its statement above, the Find X2 will be a 5G-capable smartphone. This means that it will run 5G cellular connectivity, the next-generation wireless LTE technology.
According to a Twitter post by OPPO Global Marketing President and Company Vice President Brian Shen, the OPPO Find X2 will boast flagship specs. These specs include a 120Hz refresh rate, matched recently by Samsung’s new Galaxy S20 series, a 2K resolution, and HDR up to 1200 brightness nits. Other specs include 240Hz sampling and a 100% DCI-P3 color output. In other words, the OPPO Find X2 looks to be a standard premium flagship these days. Only the 120Hz refresh rate has become a new standard in the premium smartphone race. The 35-minute charging from 0 to 100 will certainly heat up the premium phone race, however.
