Professor Oak is finally getting off his butt and joining other trainers in the world of Pokémon, as you can now play him in Pokémon Masters.
Through a new content update and event that begins today, players can gain Professor Oak as a playable sync pair.
This is also the first time that Professor Oak has been a playable character in any Pokémon series game since the franchise launched decades ago. From the very beginning, he has only ever been a supporting character.
One that you could talk to but never actually use. Oh how times have changed, as DeNA and The Pokémon Company have tossed him into the fray to battle against other trainers.
Pokémon Masters also lets Mew team up with Professor Oak
If it wasn’t enough that you can play as Professor Oak, you’ll get to team up with Mew as well. Because Mew is the Pokémon that Professor Oak uses, making this one sync Pair you won’t want to let slip through your fingers.
Mew of course has been playable in the games before, but it’s still a treat for players to get Mew in Pokémon Masters because it can be such a powerful Pokémon.
The best part really is that you don’t have to do much to acquire the two. Your first step is to just log into the game at any point during the event time frame. After that, you just need to make it past the tutorial and you’re done.
This is a very quick process to complete, so you’ll be able to use Professor Oak and Mew almost immediately. Which is great if this will be your first time playing Pokémon Masters.
There’s extra incentives for players who complete chapter 2
Though you only need to complete the tutorial to get Professor Oak and Mew, you’ll get some little extras if you take things further.
Your task is still not that hard though. Simply complete chapter 2 of the main storyline in the game and you’ll unlock the Professor Oak & Mew special missions.
From there, complete these special missions to eventually upgrade the pair. Making their attacks even more powerful. Player will also get 3,000 free gems if they log into the game daily until February 27.
As for the new Professor Oak content, you will need to complete everything by March 15. Keep in mind you can still acquire Professor Oak and Mew but not do the special missions. Though you will miss out on the upgrade.
