Simpler, Smaller & Faster Facebook Messenger Coming To Android Soon

Facebook will soon push out a simpler, smaller, and faster Messenger app to Android. The company has announced that the update to the app is already available via the App Store, while it’s coming to the Play Store soon.
Facebook did not share any details on when will that happen, though, it only said „soon”. That being said, this change is a part of Facebook’s 'Project Lightspeed’.
The goal of this project was to make Messenger more minimalistic, faster in operation, and lighter overall. That goes not only for the weight of the app itself, but bloatware in it as well.
Facebook Messenger will become much faster once this update arrives
The company claims that the app will work twice as fast compared to the previous version. On top of that, it’s allegedly four times smaller than it used to be.
Facebook actually re-coded all of the app’s features in order to work with the new infrastructure. That is the only way the company was able to achieve such a drastic change.
The company did note that the app remains feature-rich, though. Nothing of the features that you know and love / hate has been removed. Facebook also noted that it will be much easier to add new features to the app as well, without bogging down the performance.
Messenger became its own application back in 2011. Until then, it was a part of the main Facebook application. It was basically the 'chat’ function of Facebook’s main app.
Messenger is one of the most popular messaging applications on Android
Over time, Messenger managed to become one of the most popular messaging applications for mobile devices. There is also a web interface available, for those of you who want to communicate that way.
Facebook kept adding new features to the app, which basically bogged it down, and made it quite heavy on the battery. Well, this new change should help with that as well, at least a little bit.
Messenger, unlike WhatsApp and Viber, doesn’t require you to use your phone number. In other words, you can use this app on multiple devices without a problem.
You do need to log into your Facebook account, though, if you’d like to use the app. You don’t need to use Facebook itself, of course, but the registration is necessary.
For several years, Facebook made it possible for users to register via their phone number, without the need for a Facebook account. Well, that feature has been removed quite recently. This new update will hopefully land on Android in the near future, and improve the app as it did on iOS.
