OnePlus 8 Will Only Be Available In 5G Models

OnePlus is only going to launch the OnePlus 8 in 5G models, and that means that the price is going to go up. And it’ll go up quite a bit.
This means that OnePlus is following Samsung’s lead with the Galaxy S20 series, and making the entire lineup 5G.
CNET interviewed Pete Lau, the CEO of OnePlus, who basically said that yes its prices are going to go up again this year. But they won’t be as high as the Galaxy S20 series. So don’t expect the OnePlus 8 to cost $999, thankfully. In this interview, Lau also confirmed two of the three rumored OnePlus 8 models. Which is the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.
There are rumors on a OnePlus 8 Lite, but Lau did not confirm those in this interview. That doesn’t mean it’s not happening, but it also doesn’t mean that it is.
Lau took this time to reaffirm OnePlus’ commitment to 5G. And it’s going „All In” with 5G on the OnePlus 8 series, which is going to make it easier for carriers to want to sell these phones like Verizon and T-Mobile. As Verizon is still being rumored to carry the OnePlus 8 this year.
OnePlus 8 is still slated for a mid-April launch
The OnePlus 8 is still looking at a mid-April launch, which would be about a month earlier than the OnePlus 7 launched last year. That’s not a huge surprise, given that phones do typically launch a few weeks earlier every year. And the fact that we have seen a ton of leaks for the OnePlus 8 in recent weeks, well ahead of when we’d normally see them.
However, there is the possibility that the OnePlus 8 does not launch then. Thanks to the Coronavirus outbreak, manufacturing has been at a standstill in China and many other countries, where these phones are being manufactured. And since OnePlus is a Chinese company, it also does its prototype testing in China.
We’ve already seen a number of companies delay their launches, and now Apple is outright cancelling its March event and the iPhone 9. This is something that we will likely continue to see as the Coronavirus continues to spread, which is very unfortunate. Even if OnePlus does its announcement in April, the stock might be very limited for the first few months. And considering it does a follow up pretty quickly after that, it won’t be good for its revenue.
So right now, it’s a good idea to take the mid-April launch with a grain of salt. While that’s when OnePlus wants to announce the phone, things could change.
