Harley-Davidson Is Adding Support For Android Auto

Harley-Davidson has announced via a press release, that it will be adding support for Android Auto starting with its 2021 models.
Older models will also get a software update that brings in Android Auto support. If your motorcycle is a 2014 model or newer, you will soon be able to use Android Auto on it. Harley-Davidson has not yet said when the update will be rolling out, so it could be as soon as next week, or as late as next year. We’ll have to wait and see.
This comes after Harley-Davidson supported CarPlay for years
As is normally the case with Android Auto, Harley-Davidson supported Apple CarPlay for years before it decided to bring over Android Auto support. But now, even more users will be able to connect their smartphone to their motorcycle and play their favorite music, get navigation and much more.
Harley-Davidson is only supporting wired Android Auto, so you will need to plug it in with a USB cable. Unfortunately, it is not opting for the wireless Android Auto. At least not yet.
Harley-Davidson riders are going to be able to access their favorite smartphone apps through the Boom! Box GTS. This includes using Google Maps and Waze for navigation. You also get access to the Google Assistant, so you can ask it to navigate to a bar, or to turn off your lights at home. It can do just about everything that it can from a smart speaker.
Android Auto is available in 36 countries right now, while Google Assistant on Android Auto is only available in Australia, Canada (English), France, Germany, India (English), South Korea, United Kingdom, and United States.
Android Auto comes to a smaller screen
Naturally, motorcycles are smaller than cars, trucks and SUVs, so that the screen that is on the Harley-Davidson vehicles are going to be smaller. Though it’s still rather surprising that it is a 6.5-inch display that’s built into these motorcycles. And considering it is going to be closer to your face, it might actually be a much better option for people.
On this screen, you’ll be able to see navigation from Waze or Google Maps, which can be very helpful, especially for those that are in a new area, or maybe taking a cross country trip and need the navigation. And of course, you can listen to your favorite music as well, thanks to Android Auto. This is going to be a really big deal for motorcycle riders.
