Samsung Galaxy Fold Is Finally Getting Android 10

Samsung is rolling out the Android 10 update to the Galaxy Fold.
The update is coming with One UI 2.0 included, not quite the latest One UI 2.1 update. So don’t expect to see any Galaxy S20 features coming to the Galaxy Fold.
The Android 10 update has been long awaited, and considering how much the Galaxy Fold costs, you’d think it would have gotten it well before now. However, the Galaxy Fold likely needed more software modifications compared to the Galaxy Note 10 or S20 series, for Android 10. Due to the two displays, and one of them being a larger 4:3 aspect ratio display.
Disappointing to see a nearly $2,000 phone so behind on software updates
It’s pretty much expected on the Android side, but still disappointing that a phone that costs $1,980, is so behind on software updates. Meanwhile you have companies like HMD Global that are rolling out updates to its Nokia smartphones within weeks of them becoming available.
Just as a refreshed, Android 10 actually went stable back in September 2019. So that’s a solid six months (almost seven) before it actually came to the Galaxy Fold.
Samsung has greatly improved when it comes to software updates in the past few years though. But this is still pretty sad. Given how much Galaxy Fold users paid for this phone, they should be first in line to get new versions of Android. Heck, the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 both got this over a month ago.
On top of all of that, it’s not getting the One UI 2.1 update that the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 series are currently getting. So even though it is getting Android 10 now, the Galaxy Fold is still a major update behind.
For those that are interested, the build for this update is F900FXXU3BTCD and it is heading out right now. You can head to the Settings in your phone. Tap on About Phone, then tap on Software Update. And you should be able to pull it down. Keep in mind that this is going to be a pretty major update, so make sure you are connected to WiFi before attempting to update your phone. As the update is going to be close to a gigabyte in size. And you don’t want to risk it stopping in the middle of the download. it’s also a good idea to plug in your Galaxy Fold before attempting this download. As it will take some time to boot up again after installing the update.
