Google has been ramping up where it advertises Stadia Pro being given away for free, and now that includes the app where players can access their games and purchases.
If you open the Stadia app and look in the top left corner, you’ll see an envelope icon just like you used to for the buddy pass invites you could give away, except now it suggests you share the news with friends about the free Pro memberships.
Once you open the envelope by tapping the button, there’s a small message about the free memberships. Under that there’s a big invite button that lets you share the signup link with any friend or family member directly. Or, you can just copy the message content and share it with multiple people a lot faster.
Google has promoted free Stadia Pro memberships in more places than the app
This isn’t the first time Google targeted people with the advertisement about its free two months of Pro memberships.
Yesterday there was a small message with an associated link about staying home and playing games on Stadia on the main Google homepage. That message has been replaced today but it’s highly likely that you’ll start to see these promotions pop up in more places.
Whether it be on the Google homepage again or elsewhere.
This is actually a really smart way to get more users
This is actually a really good way to get more users on board. In fact it might be the best way. Or close to it.
Because this is kind of like word of mouth in a sense. While Google can do all it can to promote the two months free with a link on its homepage, people might be less inclined to click the link. If they even notice it in the first place.
However, if a friend sends you a message that says they have been enjoying Stadia and that you should check it out too, you might be more likely to do so. Right? Especially now that Pro is free and you can sign up without paying any money at all for the controller.
Google should have been doing this since the first day the Pro memberships were made free. There might be more people on board trying the service out right now. But better late than never.
Now that there’s an easy way for active users who do like the service to share it with friends, more people might be inclined to test it out. Which is only a good thing for Google and Stadia in the long run.
