Huawei will reportedly be sticking to its planned schedule for the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 flagship launch. In fact, based on a recently reported leak on China’s Weibo social network, the company will launch the Google-free handset in October. The flagship will ship with a brand new 5nm chipset on-board as well, the tipster claims.
The most interesting piece of news pertaining to the Huawei Mate 40 is arguably going to be its 5nm Kirin chipset. US sanctions have made it impossible for the company to go its typical route in obtaining the technology underpinning the chips. But the company’s subsidiary, HiSilicon, has pressed on anyway. The chipset in question is, depending on who’s reporting, either the Kirin 1020 or Kirin 1000.
Of those two, the Kirin 1020 has made headlines more recently. Not only is that a 5nm process chipset, advancing things further for the in-house AI-driven Kirin line. It’s also expected to be as much as 50-percent faster than the Kirin 990 chip found in the company’s Huawei P40. That would represent a massive boost in power over that other flagship device, launched only recently in March.
Huawei is keeping its optimism up for the Mate 40 launch
Presumably, as with that other, above-mentioned gadget, the Huawei Mate 40 will launch with at least up to 40W charging. 5G support will likely be a part of the package too. That other handset also launched in three variants, which the Mate 40 will undoubtedly match at the very least.
For instance, it kicked things off with 8GB RAM and 128GB of expandable storage in the 6.1-inch base model. The 60Hz OLED, fullHD+ display panel was bolstered to 90Hz at 6.58-inches for the 'Pro’ variant. That also happened to ship with double the storage capacity. And doubling the capacity again takes users up to the Huawei P40 Pro+.
On the camera front, the Huawei P40 series packs a 50-megapixel UltraVision camera array. And the specs continue along a similar line for the P40 series from there. The Mate series is technically Huawei’s „flagship” run of devices though, so things could get even crazier.
Regardless of the specifications though, Huawei’s new devices won’t ship with Google apps installed. In fact, those likely won’t be available at all since the company can’t work with Google due to sanctions. Despite those sanctions and in spite of the lack of Google apps or its ecosystem, Huawei is optimistic about initial sales.
The leak indicates that the Chinese tech giant intends to sell as many as 8 million of its Mate 40 smartphones to customers in Q4 2020.
Huawei’s optimism here is warranted
Huawei’s optimism may not be misplaced either. The company has continued to thrive. That’s in terms of increased revenue and sales figures, showing almost unilateral growth even after the US first started imposing its sanctions. As of last July, the company reported a 23.2-percent year over year increase in the first half of 2019. Its total revenue of 401.3 billion yuan or $58.26 billion. It had a net profit margin of 8.7-percent were unexpected as well. And that’s based on how both its 5G and consumer business continues to grow.
The figures might look different for 2021 since Huawei will no longer be able to get its key chip components from TSMC, following sanctions forcing the company to look elsewhere. But, for now, the Huawei Mate 40 appears to be on time with regard to its release date and expectations.
