Samsung isn’t the only company in the world diving into research on a foldable phone, but it certainly seems to be the farthest along, as Samsung’s preparing to reveal the next device in this category.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is that device, and it’s expected to make an appearance at the company’s upcoming Unpacked event on August 5. Previously thought to be called the Galaxy Fold 2, a leak from early July suggests that the second fold will actually adopt the Z branding.
So instead of being called the Galaxy Fold 2, Samsung’s next foldable phone will be called the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Following in the footsteps of the Galaxy Z Flip, the company’s second foldable phone.
Leading up to Unpacked, a series of images have surfaced of the phone. These give the best look yet at Samsung’s soon to be newest device with a foldable display.
Samsung’s next foldable phone will come in at least two colors
These high-resolution renders that can be seen below show off the phone in two different colors.
This means Samsung has plans to release the device in at least two color options when it launches a little bit later this year. The colors match up with the colors for the Galaxy Note 20.
Based on the leaked images Samsung will release the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black. The Galaxy Note 20 series devices are also supposed to release in Mystic White and a Green color.
So there’s a chance that Samsung may release the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in those two colors as well. For now though, expect that Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black could be the only two options.
It comes with a triple camera array on the back
Like many devices this year, and not just the ones from Samsung, the phone will come with three rear cameras.
This has been a trend in smartphones for nearly the last year. Samsung already uses three cameras on its other high-end phones as well. So when you think about it, it might be a little unexpected if Samsung didn’t use three cameras for the Galaxy Z Fold 2.
Alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Samsung is expected to reveal four other devices. This includes the Galaxy Tab S7, the Galaxy Watch 3, the Galaxy Buds Live, and the Galaxy Note 20 series.
Samsung should also unveil pricing and availability for all of these devices during the announcement at Unpacked. Though there’s always the chance it will let carriers announce their own pricing.
