Nokia 8.3 5G Finally Confirmed For U.S. Release

HMD Global today at last confirmed the Nokia 8.3 5G release is coming to the United States. It’s unknown when exactly is that supposed to happen, however.
More specifically, the smartphone company isn’t ready to commit to a stateside release window that’s more specific than „this autumn.” That’s hardly a surprise, of course, given everything that’s been happening this year.
The same goes for any details on specific color options and memory configurations. In other words, HMD is today simply letting everyone know the Nokia 8.3 5G is still happening.
Which isn’t the worst thing to do when your product has been in a „coming soon” phase for nearly half a year. If anything, the Nokia 8.3 5G release saga is a good reminder of why Android OEMs tend to announce devices immediately before releasing them. Which is also why things leak all the time.
Even HMD’s marketing should be annoyed with the Nokia 8.3 5G release saga
As a result, HMD was forced to completely overhaul the marketing strategy for the Nokia 8.3 5G. Even if this turned out to be a normal year, the original advertising for the Nokia 8.3 5G was super risky. As it was largely based on a promise of the world’s first globally available 5G „flagship”.
It’s not hard to argue it failed the „flagship” part even before HMD’s supply and distribution chains ground to a halt. Because, contrary to what Qualcomm claims, the Snapdragon 765G is not a „flagship” chip.
It’s just that years of buzzword bombardment did a number on that label, rendering it almost meaningless. It will soon complete its transformation from the name of a highly specific product category to a spectrum of arbitrary features. That still won’t retroactively make the Nokia 8.3 5G a „flagship” and it remains to be seen whether anything even makes it „available” in the coming months.
Yes, what remains is waiting for HMD to figure out how to mass-produce and distribute an electronic device in 2020. Which isn’t a(nother) dig at the company, but simply a remainder of how much economic uncertainty the world’s presently facing.
With that said, HMD is likely planning a Nokia 8.3 5G release no later than early November. Because the best time of the year for a stateside flagship launch is just before the holidays. That period is the seasonal zenith of American consumerism.
Which, itself, is one of the main reasons why the U.S. became the world’s largest market for high-end smartphones in the first place.
