Google SVP Hiroshi Lockheimer has now provided what could be the clearest real-world  Microsoft Surface Duo yet. Shared via Twitter, the executive’s recently-reported tweet highlights an image of some „yakitori and yakiniku” he made over the weekend. But, placed front and center amid all that delicious food, is the upcoming device.
The Microsoft gadget is shown in the same stark white configuration that’s been seen in previous leaks. But this image is much clearer than those leaks have been. There are also a few differences that are readily noticeable in the difference.
For instance, the casing on the dual-screen Android smartphone appears to boast a few notches and cut-outs meant to make handling it easier. One such notch is seen at the right-hand side of the device and would presumably help open and close the gadget more effortlessly.
A charging port is also clearly visible. The company tucked the port inside another piece of the surrounding edge that’s been cut away. Of course, that’s a USB-C port.
What is Microsoft Surface Duo?
The Google exec hasn’t provided a lot of detail to go along with the newly-shared image. But that doesn’t mean this is an entirely unknown device. Not only has Microsoft itself teased the device since October of last year, with plans to launch in „Holiday” 2020. Many of the deeper details are already known.
As the branding implies, Surface Duo is a dual-screen-enabled foldable. But instead of running Microsoft Windows as other surface devices do, this one runs Android 10 out-of-the-box. And it will be updated to Android 11 quickly, almost without question. That’s because it’s not a foldable, single-screen device but two separate screens. And the upcoming OS has a lot of improvements in store for multi-screen devices.
More specifically, those are two 5.6-inch AMOLED displays. Microsoft has set the resolution at 1,800 by 1,350 pixels — for each display. The displays are also set on a 360-degree hinge that allows the gadget to be used as a smartphone or flipped around for more tablet-like productivity. A single 11-megapixel camera is embedded in the frame.
Inside, as of the teaser, this is expected to be driven by a Snapdragon 855 backed by 6GB of RAM. Storage is set at 64GB or 256GB.
A 3,460mAh-capacity battery is expected behind all of that
When is this actually coming?
As noted above, Microsoft has only alluded to the holiday season for Surface Duo. But the full-blown announcement and even shipping are reportedly expected by the end of the month. So nobody will have to wait long to get all of the details.
