A new report by XDA states that new features like RAM Boost, DC Dimming, Caller Identification, etc. will not be making its way to older OnePlus devices.
This information is confirmed by OnePlus to XDA. While OnePlus announced porting several features to its older devices in many of its previous posts. However, the latest reports suggest that the company will not bring these features to older devices.
Well, OnePlus is known to port features from its new phones to older devices. We have seen OnePlus 7T getting new features from OnePlus 8 and others.
But as pointed out by XDA, over the last year, OnePlus has failed to deliver on this front. Besides, it has now confirmed that new features will not arrive on older OnePlus phones.
RAM Boost for OnePlus 5 and 5T is shelved due to hardware compatibility issues
The first thing to talk about is the RAM Boost feature for the OnePlus 5/5T. Notably, OnePlus announced officially in a post that this feature will be ported over to OnePlus 5 series from the OnePlus 7 series.
However, now OnePlus confirms that this feature which aims at improving RAM utilization will not arrive on the OnePlus 5/5T. Apparently, OnePlus has cited hardware compatibility issues as the reason.
There was an official post regarding the Caller Identification feature to be ported over from OnePlus 6/6T to the OnePlus 3/3T. It was said to be a part of the Android 9 Pie stable package.
But sadly, XDA confirms that this feature is shelved. Moreover, it will not be coming for the OnePlus 3 and 3T citing these devices have passed their maintenance period.
No DC Dimming feature for OnePlus 6 and 6T
OnePlus 6/6T beta channel saw the arrival of the DC Dimming feature. Although the feature was available in the beta channel, it never came out with the stable update.
OnePlus has simply mentioned because of the hardware compatibility issue, DC Dimming will not come to OnePlus 6 and 6T.
Another thing to note is that the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro also are missing a few promised features. The OnePlus 8’s product page says that the upgrade to 5G or 4G dual SIM support will arrive via OTA update.
Notably, even after 5 months since its launch, the OnePlus 8 series has still not received any such OTA that enables dual SIM support in the US.
Besides, features like One-hand mode are also yet to make an appearance on the OnePlus 7 and 7T series. Apparently, the feature was avialable in the beta channel and was alleged to arrive in the next build.
