We reported last week that Samsung could be preparing a budget foldable smartphone. Now, a support page for this device has popped up on the company’s official website, confirming its existence and also hinting at an imminent launch.
Samsung India’s official website recently published a support page for a smartphone with model number SM-F415F. While the listing doesn’t reveal much about the handset itself, the 'F’ in the model pretty much confirms that it’s a foldable device.
Samsung has been using F model numbers for its Galaxy Z series foldable handsets since the very beginning. The Galaxy Fold has the model number SM-F900 while the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold 2 bear the model numbers SM-F700 and SM-F916 respectively. Going by this logic, the SM-F415F should be a budget foldable phone from the Korean company.
This unannounced Samsung foldable picked up the certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance earlier this month bearing the same model number. That listing confirmed Android 10 based software, dual-band Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac and Wi-Fi Direct, and dual SIM support on the handset.
Samsung publishes a support page for its budget foldable
Samsung is said to be preparing at least three new foldable smartphones with plans to release them in the near future. Those include the Galaxy Z Fold Lite, Galaxy Z Fold S, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3. While the Z Fold 3 will likely be the successor to the Z Fold 2 that launches in a few days from now, the Z Fold S is rumored to be Samsung’s first foldable with S Pen support. Needless to say, both of them are going to be expensive phones.
This leaves the Z Fold Lite as the likely candidate for the „SM-F415F” phone that’s currently doing rounds on the internet. The „Lite” branding itself is an indication of a budget flagship. That said, there’s always the possibility that Samsung has a fourth foldable in the works as well. After all, the company is known for flooding the market with phones at every price point.
As for the specs, details are pretty scarce right now. Reports suggest that the phone may come in 64GB and 128GB storage variants. Samsung may offer this handset in black, blue, and green colors. This phone is also likely to use a colorless polyimide (CPI) flexible panel. The more-expensive Samsung foldables such as the Galaxy Z Fold 2 use Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) panels.
The South Korean company might be developing this phone for a sub-$1,000 price point. Rumors have it that it’ll feature a Snapdragon 700 series processor. However, none of these reports are officially confirmed, except that a Samsung phone with model number SM-F415F exists. Support pages going live on the official website also indicate that the device is nearing launch.
Samsung is currently prepping to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The company recently sent out an online invitation for the September 1 launch event. It calls the event „Unpacked Part 2,” which will be streamed live on Samsung.com at 10 am ET (2 pm GMT) coming Tuesday.
