LG and NVIDIA are making history within the gaming industry today. Earlier this morning NVIDIA announced its new 30 series GPUs.
Which bring some truly advanced performance and features to PC gaming. LG followed that up by announcing that its 2020 lineup of 8K OLED TVs (which are already great for gaming) will support the NVIDIA 30 series GPUs.
Obviously, to make the most of this new support, you’ll need a new 30 series GPU. You’ll also need one of the TVs that support them. LG says that all of its 8K OLED TVs have this support. So you’ll have a few options.
That being said, LG’s 8K OLED TVs are a bit pricey. The good news is that the 30 series GPU are a little less pricey. Especially when you compare them to the costs of the 20 series in addition to how much of an improvement the 30 series cards are.
In short, it should be an investment that’s worth it if you love gaming.
LG 8K gaming will probably require a 3090 GPU from NVIDIA
Though you can certainly get into the 30 series cards for $499, the price of the GeForce RTX 3070 GPU, 8K gaming is probably going to require better performance.
Which means you’d need the GeForce RTX 3090 GPU to support the kind of power that an 8K game would need. On top of that you’ll need plenty of RAM. So pairing that all together isn’t going to be a super affordable purchase when you factor in the costs of LG’s latest TVs.
Still, if you have the money to build a beast of a PC with all of this hardware, an LG 8K OLED TV seems like it might be the way to go.
Support will reach its full potential later this year
Once you’ve got one of these new TVs and a 30 series GPU in-hand, you can set everything up right away. Then start enjoying the benefits of the performance upgrade that NVIDIA’s new cards will offer.
Such as G-Sync support, Variable Refresh Rate, ultra-fast response rate, and Auto Low Latency Mode. The full potential of LG’s added 30 series GPU support though is coming later this year. Because features like HDMI Display Stream Compression will be available through a firmware update. And LG says that’s coming later in 2020.
It doesn’t mention when, but there are only four months left in the year. So the wait won’t be that long to begin with.
