Xbox has updated its official app for Android phones and it includes a new feature called Xbox Remote Play. As the name suggests, this lets you play Xbox games on your Android smartphone.
This used to be called Xbox Console Streaming. And it’s been available for a while. The difference now, other than the new name, is that it’s open to all users and not just Xbox Insiders. It also streams to your device from your Xbox console that’s connected to the same WiFi network.
Which is very different from the Cloud Gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate that launched on September 15.
Xbox Remote Play is part of the new Xbox app (Beta) experience
The Xbox app (Beta) got a whole new coat of paint today through the update, and Xbox Remote Play is simply one part of that.
It is arguably one of the bigger changes with this update. Because it opens the functionality up to many more users. But there’s a an entire new experience with the app that centers around making your favorite Xbox games easier to access.
This includes a new design for the app that attempts to streamline everything. Making it easier to find and overall just easier to launch games that you want to play.
The design is also more unified with the design of other Xbox user interfaces. Allowing for easier connection with your friends and parties alongside your games.
Notifications have a unified inbox with consoles and PC

Microsoft’s goal is to make it easer to stay connected with your favorite gaming-related things on Xbox.
Whether that be your games library. Achievements, parties, or chat conversations with friends on your friends list. The new unified notification inbox in the app means everything you get through the app will be on the console.
You can see, view, and respond to incoming chat notifications on Xbox or phone, and clear them from either and they’ll be cleared in the other space too.
There’s also a new share function. Anytime you capture pictures or video clips of your gaming sessions on the console, you can see and share those clips via the Xbox app. Which makes sharing those experiences much easier than it is on PlayStation at the moment.
As social as things have become these days, this is a good thing. As more people are home playing games than ever before and they’ll no doubt want ways to share their best gaming moments.
Microsoft is also making it possible to install games to your console right from the app. The update is available as of today for both Android smartphones and tablets.
