Well, according to a new report, Samsung may have scrapped the idea of bringing all-screen technology to Galaxy S21 and Note 21. Instead, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 may debut as an all-screen phone from Samsung.
In the past couple of years, smartphone OEMs have aggressively tried to reduce the bezels on the phones. For that smartphone OEMs took the route of installing a motorized camera, punch-hole camera, and whatnot.
The implementation of a popup camera was well appreciated by the users. Samsung took a different route altogether and i.e. it introduced its own lineup of notched-displays.
The company introduced the Infinity-O shape, Infinity-V, etc. Samsung phones were installed with Infinity-O displays right at the center of the screen.
And if you are annoyed by Samsung’s implementation and were hoping to see Samsung implement all-screen technology for the next-gen Galaxy S21 or Note 21, then you may be disappointed.
Because, as per a recent report, by Korean media, The Elec, Samsung Galaxy S21, or Note 21 will not be the „all-screen” devices. Instead, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 might be the all-screen phone from the OEM.
Samsung will reportedly implement a two-step HIAA process
You will be surprised to know that Samsung camera lot farther in implementing the under-display camera tech. Notably, Samsung was supposed to introduce this tech with the Galaxy S21.
That, of course, did not happen and neither the Galaxy Note 20 devices came with the all-screen or under-display camera tech. The company also released the second-gen Galaxy Z Fold 2.
And the all-screen tech or under-display camera was missing from Galaxy Z Fold 2 as well. But new reports suggest that the 3rd-generation of Galaxy Z Fold, i.e. the Z Fold 3 will come with the all-screen technology.
Meaning that the camera will be placed under the display and Samsung has a full proof plan, ready to be implemented. As per reports, Samsung will make use of a two-step HIAA (hole-in-active-area) process.
Apparently, the HIAA 1 is used in the Galaxy S20, A-series, and Note 20 models. In this process, the laser cuts a precise opening on the flexible OLED panel.
The precision is maintained to avoid any visible edge distortions. Besides, Samsung is pretty advanced in this HIAA 1 process. Which is the reason it is able to come with the smallest and best punch holes among its peers.
Galaxy Z Fold 3 fits the bill as an all-screen mobile, thanks to its ultra-premium tag
In order to achieve under-display or all-screen technology, Samsung would have to take the HIAA 1 process to the next level. And come up with an HIAA 2 process.
This will help the company to precisely pierce miniature holes in the tiny front camera sensor. This would allow the light to pass through the camera, enough to take selfies and videos.
Moreover, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 fits the bill to be Samsung’s all-screen device. We say this because of its ultra-premium price tag that makes it an exclusive device.
On the other hand, if Samsung goes mainstream with this all-screen or under-display tech for Galaxy S21 or Note 21, these devices will have to be produced in millions for all the hungry fans.
And this does not seem a profitable or viable plan. Whereas, the Galaxy Z Fold 3, as it is produced in a limited quantity, could be the correct device to implement this new technology.
What’s interesting is that Samsung already working on an alternative to this complicated HIAA 2 process. The alternative is to make the top display layer over the selfie camera transparent.
Good thing is that the company has shown this technology on quite a few occasions. So, it won’t be much of a problem for the R&D team to implement this tech.
