The Google Pixel 4a 5G Is Finally Available For Pre-Order

You can pre-order the Pixel 4a 5G beginning today. It’ll cost you $499 (or $599 if you are on Verizon).
The Pixel 4a 5G is only available for pre-order from the Google Store, for now. That should change in the coming weeks, as we get closer to its official release, though.
Pixel 4a 5G is very similar to the Pixel 5, with the only real differences being the slightly (and we do mean slightly) larger display, smaller battery and the plastic back. It also lacks wireless charging, but for most people, that’s not a big deal.
When we reviewed the Pixel 4a 5G earlier this month, we found that it was a really incredible device, with insane battery life. The battery lasted us through a day and a half every single day, which is not something we are used to with Pixel smartphones.
Why are there two Pixel 4a 5G variants?
Unlike the Pixel 5, Google decided to do two different Pixel 4a 5G variants this year. One is a Sub-6 model, with the other being a mmWave model for Verizon. And if you are on Verizon, you’ll be paying that 5G tax, which is $100 for the Pixel 4a 5G UW (and yes, that’s a terrible name).
That also explains why the Pixel 5 is $100 more expensive in the US versus the rest of the world. Because it includes mmWave, which does cost $100 more. And we’ve seen that as the case with other phones too, that have a specific mmWave model.
Now, if you want to buy the Pixel 4a 5G unlocked, you can do that and still use it on Verizon. You just won’t get support for Verizon’s ultrafast 5G network, which you won’t be able to use indoors anyways. So it’s not that big of a deal.
