Zhiyun Smooth 4

Price: $109
Where to buy: Amazon

Zhiyun is one of the biggest competitors of well-known gimbal-makers such as DJI and there are plenty of examples of why that is. Kicking off this tech gift guide, priced well below $150, is the company’s Smooth 4 model.
Selling for just $109, around $40 less than a comparable model from DJI, Zhiyun Smooth 4 is a 3-axis gimbal. That means it rotates and tilts automatically along three central points to keep video and photo captures smooth. Just like the branding says.
Built into this gadget’s handheld frame are all of the controls you’ll need to zoom in or out, capture stunning photos and videos complete with object-tracking, and more. This model is also presently bundled with a Plate Adapter for GoPro and Counterweight to support heavier smartphones and GoPro products.

DJI OM 4

Price: $149
Where to buy: Amazon

If you want the best of the best when it comes to affordable gimbals,  there’s no substitute for DJI OM 4.
Like the Zhiyun product above, DJI OM 4 is going to be a great 3-axis gimbal for the tech and photography fan at under $150 — hence it’s placement on this gift guide. Some key differences here are going to be build quality, advanced in-app algorithms for more professional shooting modes, and pack-in items.
DJI includes the adapters you’ll want and a handy carrying case. But it also packs in an attachment that turns this gimbal into one of the steadiest smartphone tripods on the market. With the added benefit of the above-mentioned algorithms, of course. Those let you take shots and capture footage automatically, with precision object tracking, from a more stable position.

AKASO V50X Action Cam

Price: $99.99
Where to buy: Amazon

For those who already have a tripod or gimbal, it may be time to elevate the experience with an action camera. The next two products can do just that, bringing many of the same features found in the top-dollar brands down to a more affordable level. And, available for just under $100 in a kit that includes all of the accessories needed for helmet mounting, the AKASO V50X is a great starting point for that.
In fact, the AKASO V50X should make any tech-loving photography or videography fan happy for under $150 and the bundle included in this gift guide includes no fewer than 17 accessories. Part of that is two rechargeable 1350mAh batteries for hours of video recording.
Now, this action camera won’t shoot at the highest framerate but it does capture 4K footage at up to 30 frames-per-second. And that’s complete with 4X zoom capabilities and waterproofing up to 131-feet. There’s also a remote control included.
Image distortion correction, adjustable wide-angle for shots at 170-, 140-, 110-, and 70-degrees, and electronic image stabilization are all part of this Wi-Fi-enabled package too.

AKASO V50 Elite Action Cam

Price: $139.99
Where to buy: Amazon

Bumping up a bit in price and in features is the AKASO V50 Elite action camera. As included in this sub-$150 tech gift guide, that comes in a nice bundle too. Including a similar set of accessories.
Where the AKASO V50 Elite stands out from its 'X’-branded counterpart is primarily in features. For starters, this camera has up to 8X zoom and, although a remote is still part of the bundle, can also work hands-free. That’s via voice controls, allowing users who do need their hands for other things during shooting to capture the moment regardless.
What’s more, the V50 Elite variant of AKASO’s action cam shoots at a higher framerate for those who need it. Stills are still captured via a 20-megapixel lens. But video is possible at up to 4K and 60 frames-per-second. OR at up to 240 frames-per-second at 720p HD.

Amazon Fire TV Cube

Price: $119.99
Where to buy: Amazon

Amazon Fire TV Cube is the company’s most performance-ready streaming device. Or, put more succinctly, it’s a 4K streaming stick that takes a cube form with a built-in speaker and mics. So, in effect, this device can fulfill the needs of both a streaming gadget and an Alexa-centric smart home hub.
That means the Fire TV Cube can be used to stream Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, or just about any other streaming service. And that it can also be used to check the weather, turn off smart lights, or control other in-home devices. But it can also be connected for voice controls via a compatible soundbar and A/V receiver for live TV, cable, or satellite.
Those features aside, the Amazon Fire TV Cube also stands out because of its support for Dolby Vision, HDR, and HDR10+ content. In effect, packing all of the best of an Amazon Echo Dot speaker and an Amazon Fire TV stick into a single gadget.

NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV 4K HDR Streaming Media Player

Price: $149.99
Where to buy: Amazon

If less Amazon-linked streaming sounds more appealing, the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV 4K HDR Streaming Media Player is a mouthful. But, among the streaming devices in this guide, it might also be the perfect solution or the perfect gift at under $150.
As it’s branding implies, this NVIDIA SHIELD device is a 4K streaming stick that supports HDR, including Dolby Vision. It also works with Alexa devices but because it’s running Android TV it’ll work with Google Assistant too. Making it a worthy addition to the Google and Nest Home ecosystems.
In fact, Google Assistant is built right in and works via the included remote. That connects via Bluetooth and has buttons that light up for easier nighttime use.
Also included are Gigabit Ethernet, dual-band AC Wi-Fi, a built-in power supply, and a microSD card slot for storage expansion. Since this is also powered by NVIDIA’s X1+ processor, this gadget is going to be among the most powerful streaming devices on the market. And the fact that it comes with Android TV for app access is the icing on the cake.

Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet

Price: From $149.99
Where to buy: Amazon

When it comes to Android tablets, there are only a few brands that would even be worthy of a gift guide — let alone a sub-$150 gift guide. Amazon’s Fire HD 10 tablet should be one of the first to spring to mind.
Now, only one such tablet in the 10.1-inch category is available at that price. Amazon also has some older models and smaller models at a lower cost. But there are benefits to this version beyond the 1080p HD screen or 32GB storage at such a low price point.
While this version is supported by ads on the lock screen, this 32GB tablet can be expanded up to 512GB via microSD card and has a newer 2GHz octa-core processor with 2GB RAM. More than enough to run Android-based Fire OS since it’s 30-percent faster than the previous chip. It also has up to 12-hours of usage on a single charge with 9W USB-C charging.
For added personality, you can choose from Black, Plum, Twilight Blue, or White. And Amazon has versions with more storage, including options for packed-in fast chargers, cases, and ad-free variants. Those will cost a bit more. But all are well within reach of the $150 target set for this gift guide.

Lenovo Tab M10 Plus

Price: From $149.99
Where to buy: Amazon

For a similar level of performance without ads or the hullabaloo of Amazon’s heavily-altered Android, Lenovo has you covered. The Lenovo Tab M10 Plus is a 2GB RAM, 32GB storage Android tablet.
More expensive versions offer both more storage and more RAM. But since Android tablets are primarily used for entertainment, all of that’s not necessarily required. Plus, a microSD card can be used to expand storage up to 256GB.
An octa-core processor and 10.3-inch FHD touchscreen, Dolby Atmos-tuned dual speakers, and a 7-hour screen-on battery life round out the package. But its minimal, near-stock software, front and rear cameras, coupled with slim bezels in a sleek design go a long way to helping this tablet fill in as a real value for its price. Especially for first-time tablet buyers or those who need a secondary Android device solely for entertainment.

Google Nest Hub

Price: $89.99
Where to buy: Best Buy

Nest Hub is Google’s budget entry smart home hub. It packs a 7-inch display panel for checking the weather, viewing mapping information, seeing calendar alerts, and viewing smart home security cameras. And it’s also packed with a decent speaker and Google Assistant AI.
That means this speaker/display combo can do just about anything your Assistant can do on your Android Smartphone. And then some. Whether it’s dimming the room lights, viewing or listening to a recipe, setting reminders, or playing some music.
Now, Nest Hub may not be the first device to come to mind with regard to streaming videos. That’s because as noted above this gadget is intended to serve as a display-enabled smart home hub. But it can also play content from Netflix and a few other services as well. So, despite its low cost, this smart home hub goes well beyond voice calls, calendar alerts, and digital photo frame tasks. Making it a near-perfect fit for a tech gift guide under $150, for first-time or long-time smart home enthusiasts alike.

Google Nest Audio

Price: $99
Where to buy: Walmart

Rounding out our guide for sub-$150 tech gift ideas is another smart home entry. Namely, Google’s Nest Audio smart speaker. That comes packed with all of the same features like Google Assistant, including smart home control features. But here, that’s all packed into a great Bluetooth-ready speaker.
Not only is this speaker 70-percent louder than its predecessor. It has more bass, better clarity, and can be paired in groups with other Nest Audio speakers in stereo. Thanks to Bluetooth, it can even be hooked up as an ad hoc surround sound system with compatible TVs. So you’re getting a lot more than a speaker or AI assistant here. All with personalized results, on-demand, helping to save time and organize your life more efficiently.
Best of all, the Nest Audio is available in Chalk, Charcoal, Sage, Sand, and Sky colors and is coated in premium cloth fabric. So it should provide the perfect accent to any room, whether you’re buying as a gift or keeping this one for yourself.
