Samsung Galaxy S21 & TCL 20 5G Gets Netflix HDR Playback Support

The Samsung Galaxy S21 series was launched more than two weeks ago, and they feature the gorgeous Dynamic AMOLED HDR10+ display. Now, Netflix has added the Galaxy S21 series to the list of devices supporting HDR playback.
Along with the Galaxy S21 series, TCL 20 5G also gets added to the HDR support list. Notably, Galaxy S21 devices came with Netflix HD support out of the box, however, streaming HDR content was not supported.
The good thing is that Netflix did not take too much time in adding Samsung’s first-flagships of 2021, the Galaxy S21 lineup. Since the display on the Galaxy S21 devices are arguably the best you can get on a smartphone, playing HDR content will surely let you enjoy consuming content in its full capabilities.
The official list, as updated by Netflix on its help page, includes the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra, and the TCL 20 5G. HDR provides deep and vibrant colors and is on a rise in popularity.
This inclusion also indicates that although the Galaxy S21 devices came with capable hardware for HDR playback, the devices did not support streaming Netflix HDR playback out of the box.
A bunch of OPPO devices has been certified with Netflix HD support
HDR playback is limited to Premium tier users which costs $18/month. And in order for an Android device to be able to stream HD video on Netflix, it must have Widevine L1 certification.
After internal testing by Netflix, it grants the devices HD or HDR certification. This certification officially makes the devices capable of streaming either HD or HDR content on the platform.
Besides, this also means that even if the device comes with Widevine L1 certification, it might not support HD or HDR content streaming on Netflix out of the box.
On one hand, Samsung Galaxy S21 devices pack Dynamic AMOLED HDR10+ display, TCL 20 5G comes with NXTVSION-enhanced display with HDR support. This is the reason the device is also added to the list of Netflix HDR supported devices.
A bunch of OPPO devices have been certified as HD capable by Netflix. These OPPO devices include all of the phones listed below. Moreover, Netflix recommends at least 25Mbps internet speed in order to enjoy streaming quality in HDR. While HD content streaming is available to the Standard or Premium plans.
